I have the mp3's for doom 1 & 2 in the same folder as my wads. In my case in /home/pi/Retropie/roms/doom/ . They work in lr-prboom but not zdoom. I even did as the lr-prboom/zdoom retropie wiki stated possibly needing to remove the id3 tags. The wiki is really lacking in the part about the music Still nothing. Any help is much appreciated.

I'm not at my Pi to test this but you might try this:

        ln -s ~/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/*.mp3 ~/.zdoom/

or there might be something that needs to be changed in:
        /opt/retropie/configs/ports/doom/zdoom.ini

@backstander said in Doom mp3's work in lr-prboom but not zdoom:

          ln -s ~/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/*.mp3 ~/.zdoom/

its actually ~/.configs/zdoom/ (which is really just a link to /opt/retropie/configs/ports/doom/) on my system. it created all the shortcuts but did not work. the only option i see in the zdoom.ini is just snd_musicvolume=0.5. if you get a chance to test please let me know. thank you

On zdoom, you already have original MIDI musics, so you don't need mp3's (unless you like it more than original MIDI ones).

I've been scouring the internet and I think what you'll need to do is put the music inside either a PK3 or WAD file and load it with ZDoom.

I tried these directions but it didn't work for me:
                http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=48313

To enable the original MIDI soundtrack:
Options -> Sound Options -> MIDI Device = Timidity++ (what Robert Prince intended) or OPL Synth Emulation (what I remember it sounding like)

@edmaul69 music is in the wad. Just need to choose midi driver. Eg timidity or opl.

[Edit] sorry somehow scrolled past above post. What @backstander said.

@backstander @ buzz. do you know why killing somebody on even the easiest difficulty on any of the doom, chex, heretic, etc. games on zdoom can be impossible. On say doom ii i can kill the first guy after a few shots but i can unload all my ammo on the next and nothing. Punch doesnt do anything at all on any game. Chex games and strife because you have a hand combat weapon they dont work at all so i get killed. I updated zdoom last night after the fix. So not sure if that did anything because i never got it working before.

EDIT: i thought it was better. Read below next post.

Ive been sitting here forever with this problem. Then i started a new game in doom ii from the menu while in a problem game and went to record it to show you. All of a sudden its working right in every game. I finally killed someone in strife and chex too.

@backstander spoke too soon. It is worse on easy difficulties but still an issue

final doom evilution is completely unplayable on zdoom because you cant open doors or activate the buttons on the 2 pillars to even get out of the starting area. also playing between zdoom and lr-prboom the games are messed up bad on zdoom. on lr-prboom i can smash people and kill them really fast with a gun. not the case on zdoom

I haven't built my Pi yet, but it works just fine in the latest ZDOOM (and GZDOOM) on the computer. Is the ZDOOM port on the Pi a recent build/version?

@enderandrew looking on zdoom threads people have had this issue before and had to go back to an older version. The people on windows couldthen just update again and it would work. I had retropie 3.8.1 on my nes cart pi so i just downloaded zdoom without doing an update to the retropie setup script. Then i put that on my main pi. Works. Tried updating after that and no dice. So im just on the older version. Dont bother me though. It is working so i am happy.
