Ok so I got a USB wifi dongle with an antenna for my RPI. It seems to work in Raspbian, or whatever version of linux it is when I type sudo startx (using xfce4) and boot up a linux desktop, I can connect to my WiFi fine using that. But when in emulationstation and I access Retropie->Wifi-> try and connect using that, it always just says fails to connect.

FYI this is my router: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NQY3WO8/

I thought maybe the wifi antenna dongle I bought just didn't work with it and only worked on the raspbian desktop, it was this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01G77I46G/

I also thought maybe the signal from my router was just bad, so I bought a range extender and set that up in my room. One of these. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00XYEPLXU/

Again using the official dongle, I can connect to the router and extender fine on the linux desktop, just not at all in the retropie menu system. It of course can see the network SSIDs in the list, but after typing the password and taking a few seconds, just says unable to connect every time. Any logs I can post that will help? considering just reinstalling since I tried everything else.
