Password option for RetroPie menu

It would be nice to have a password/passcode for the RetroPie Menu in the main system view. I would just feel better about letting friends or the kids using it without messing things up the settings.

you can also just remove the menu completely on the standard ES by removing retropiemenu from Manage Packages -> Core Packages

(You can still access retropie-setup as needed from terminal etc).

Thanks Buzz I suppose that is an option. It would just be nice to access it without the keyboard attached but then what could you do without the keyboard attached anyways? I guess look at some settings or info.

@mviars Alternatively, you can use a pre-defined passkey sequence that you can enter while you are anywhere in the ES ui. The default passkey is [up,up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a] which some of you might recognize as the Konami cheat code from olden-times. This sequence can be changed in es_settings.cfg if need be: <string name="UIMode_passkey" value="uuddlrlrba" /> When succesfully entered, this will exit (and restart) ES.

Would it be possible to simply add parameter in config file so that we can hide or not Retropie menu ?

Removing retropiemenu by managing Packages look quite over kill for such request.

I did not understand the purpose of Konami code tricks. Can it be used to restart Emustation in Admin mode ?

Yeah. When 'Kid Mode' is on, for obvious reasons the option to change the mode back to 'Full' isn't available (as it won't take kids long to discover how to switch it back).

So the Konami code trick is used when in Kid mode to restart ES in Full mode again.

The youngsters of today will never have heard of the famous Konami cheat code!
