Accidentally changed MAME 2003 emulator settings when should be controlled by retroarch
-
@virg1 you don't need to clear anything. just delete the file and it will regenerate to defaults. see https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/lr-mame2003#mame-menu
also i wouldn't recommend changing control mappings in retroarch.cfg for mame2003. the tab menu is much more helpful and flexible here, but you need to be careful.

Thank you so much for the assistance! Now this may sound like a dumb question, how do I physically delete a file like that (the default.cfg file). I have never tried to delete anything in Linux
Also, you say it is "ok" to change settings using "tab". Although I tried this, basically try again and make sure I am careful about changing some of them.
Once I can figure how to delete this default file I will try again. Do you know how to designate designate the "or" functionality in that configuration area? For
Example maybe you want to use"A" button on the Xarcade or "enter" in keyboard when in the UI to select something. Maybe that is not advisable, but I know some of the stick default settings were like this. -
@virg1 The easiest way is to SSH in using Putty or WinSCP then you can browse around editing / deleting configs as you require.

Awesome thanks so much for all your help! Happy new year!

Hi there again. I have done all that you have recommended and was able to delete the temp files back to default. In MAME 2003 the number "2" which was mapped to my player 2 start button on my xarcade tankstick still exited the game
I decided to remap the button to # "3" thinking maybe there was something I was missing and emulator did not like it.
I now need to manually change the mapping in MameADV as #2 was no longer the player 2 start button. When I go into TAB. I change it to #3 per my new controller mapping, and it looks to take the value. I close out properly. Even reboot to make sure. Yet every time nothing saves and it reverts back to the original value of #2.
I have not even tried to remap anything potentially in LR MAME 2003, although I would hope now retroarch controls that
What shall I do, totally lost on this one? Is there a bug here, maybe I need to do it manually? Also I don't see the "quick view" anywhere which is odd as I see people talking about that is a way to change settings at least on the retroarch controlled emulators, and for some reason I CANNOT get in with Putty anymore (and could not since you emailed me trying it to delete files) but can get into ssh using WinSCP
All this is confusing me controllers are not mapping and why of all things Putty that used to work a few months ago will not let me into my own Pi
Thanks for anything you can offer!

Also, for some reason I don't see anything in the retroarch from the main retropie menu in emulation station. This is where the "quick view"
Should be and is not on my pi. Very odd. Hopefully this bit of into helps as well.... -
nothing in the last 2 posts make any sense to me. quick view?
-
@virg1 the quick menu only applies if you have a core loaded.
-
@virg1 I just don't understand the post either. No idea what your problem is at all or what you are doing. :/

I am trying to change button configuration in MAME advance and MAME 2003 using my xarcade tankstick. When I go into MAME advance, click TAB, and change the player 2 start button to match my controller, the value I pick looks to accept but will not work when I see it. I go back into TAB and the value that looks to be accept (#3 is mappe to player to start) is not longer saved on the configuration manu.
Also I can no longer log into putty or see any of my retroarch configurations. No emulators controlled by retroarch are listed.

I use berryboot with a dual boot. Raspian and Retropie 3.6 on my pi. Ready to try new version Retropie 4.1 on single boot without berryboot as my update to Retropie 4.0 may be the problem. Not sure what you think? I also run this with a properly
Mounted 2TB hard drive with all my toms on it ( per instructions on the website so I know it's mounted properly) -
Sorry Roms not toms. It's late for me in the northeast US
-
@virg1 I recommend starting with the most recent version on a fresh image.

Thank you, I have done so without a double boot use BerryBoot and so far things are going well with 4.1 Retropie setup. I will know tomorrow if MAME configuration for controller 2 is working properly. The auto mount for USB works fantastic.
Is there a way to easily copy all my saved "scrapings" for my game on this new version without running the scraper from the database again? Maybe somewhere I can copy from my USB drive that was mounted properly to the old 3.6 Retropie version. All I saw thus far was that selph's scraper won't work with USB drives, and hate to run the other way again as the integrated scraper kept timing out (although worked on mounted USB drives). If selphs scraper now works with the December 30th updated version to auto mount the USB using file "Retropie-mount" folder then i can go that route too. Thanks in advance for anything you can offer
