Any way to disable or hide the yellow controller message when launching a ROM?
-
Basically, I want to go straight from Emulation Station to the games with no visual obstructions. I have disabled the runcommand window since it takes up a second or two of launch time and I do most settings in-game with Select + Y. So at this point, if I could just get that yellow controller message hidden, it would be very good. It comes on in the bottom left corner and says
Wireless controller configured in port#0
. Sometimes it's still present when the game has started, usually only for a split second. TBH, I simply don't need to know that information when launching a game.Any help appreciated!
Running RP 4.1 on a pi 3.

@pjs go into Retroarch in the Retropie config menu. Go to settings then onscreen display. Onscreen notifications and turn them off.
-
@pjs and of course save current config before you exit!
-
Awesome! Thank you!
I thought it was going to be a bit more complicated like opening a config somewhere and removing some lines of code.
That was easy. ^_^
-
@pjs like everything, it's easy when you know how. You're welcome.

@pjs for those who don't like to enable
config_save_on_exit
and like to edit retroarch.cfg, the variable isvideo_font_enable
and you must set it to false. -
@meleu save on exit does not have to be enabled. It can be done manually on a case by case basis. And if you fuck up just quit out of Retroarch and it will re-set. In what way is your solution better than using the RetroArch GUI?

It pleases my own taste. :-)
I'm used to config retroarch directly in the files.

@meleu Each to their own.
-
@meleu i do everything this way if possible. I prefer editing config files manually.

@edmaul69
I agree and do the same! With the RGUI I'm not sure what exactly it is changing but with editing config files manually I know exactly what is being changed. I'm not against editing with RGUI and I'm glad there is more than one way to accomplish the same thing! -
@backstander problem with the rgui is people are reckless and haphazard when editing stuff and make a huge mess then need help without knowing what all they did
-
@edmaul69 if RetroArch had the documentation we do ;) I'd rather have more options than too few though
-
@herb_fargus oh dont get me wrong im glad its there. It saves a lot of questions for the most part. Its just the few truly problematic cases that come along because of the rgui.

Now I'm at my laptop and I'm able (have patience) to type better than on my Android phone...
My solution pleases my own taste because when using RGUI RetroArch dumps the current status of every single option of the running instance in the retroarch.cfg, overwriting the previous content. All those useful comments explaining what the options do will disappear.
We all know that RetroArch documentation is very scarce and scattered. I think that the retroarch.cfg skeleton is a good resource of information about the RetroArch options.
