make an overlay for Turtles in Time arcade?
"Turtles in Time" overlay just made, right now, and available in the Repo:
No time for checking image/installing it, so let me know if everything is ok (and if you like it of course).
Tried to recreate the feel of the original Arcade sideart / Flyer:
As said the image you posted is custom artwork and it's based on this SNES Boxart:
It's a great boxart but to use the characters from that image for an overlay would mean a huge amount of time just cutting 'em out in a clean way !! Time that to me is not worth the effort.
If someone has the characters already I would be more than happy to use them. -
@udb23 What you have looks good, but the new nickelodean turtles just aren't the same! Here are a few that might be easier to clean up. If you want i can try to help when i have some free time.

I see. Yes, these are quite easy to cut out and first image has enough resolution. Will create a new version of the overlay using them.
-
@udb23 I like it but as @TMNTturtlguy said, the new age turtles don't feel right. Did you recreate the portal? If so, that's pretty close! I may still try this one out myself but this is definitely a tougher one.
-
Found this online. Not bad, but I don't like how they covered the bottom corner with that huge instruction.
-
@greenhawk84 I have seen that one before making my own; as you said the instruction sheet does not fit. Also the boxes around the turtles, not in line with original art.
Yes. I recreated the "portal" fully (inkscape: spiral tool + blurring and gradient in the background).

@UDb23 for the vertical bezels that are being made here, they cannot be used with a shader correct? At least with a shader that works properly? I ask because when I enabled the crt.pi shader I got the rainbow colors that @dankcushions has worked to get rid of by changing/adjustments.
Also, will crt.pi work with integer scale enabled as some of the bezels require?

I'm not using shaders (personal taste) but months ago I tested it and I can't remember specific issues. There is a specific crt-pi-vertical shader; scale integer should be ON.
Details in this post. -
@udb23 thanks yes I have followed that thread for a long time, I was just curious because I think in order to use that shader properly you could not use these vertical bezels at the same time. The game image stretches horizontally beyond borders.
-
@tmntturtlguy New overlay ready!
Thanks for pointing it out.
-
I went ahead and took a stab at TMNT2.
-
@greenhawk84 Nice. Turtles fans now have quite of a choice.

@udb23 @GreenHawk84 cowabunga!

Anyone know how to get these to work with the scanlines and everything, they seem to be popular on PC-Mame (I think Pi3 would choke though):
-
@udb23 Love your work and this thread. I want to start making some overlays myself. For 1080p overlays is there any base template you use?
-
@mrjordaaany With lr-mame and lr-fba most games have the same specific standard game area resolution @ 1080p. Of course it also depends if you want the game area to stretch to the 1080 height or "integer scale" the original game resolution.
What program would you use ?
I use basic templates for horizontal and vertical games in made, in SVG format. -
Anyone want to try out Final Fight (preferably with integer scaling to fit more art)?
-
@greenhawk84 nice overlay!
Unfortunately no time this week to test on Pi. -
@udb23 No this is a scan of the original that would fit in an original cabinet. This would not work with a Pi. I would use this for sampling and creating a 16:9 bezel.
