nes30 freezing pie 3

SO yesterday I updated to 3.7 and started using my new nes30 pro controllers. i was running 3.6 with xbox before this on my pi3. so now that i am running 3.7 with these new controllers my system will freeze up to the point where i have to unplug it.
has anyone else had this problem with their nes30 pro's?

using onboard bluetooth? see
https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/1360(it looks like it affects some/all bluetooth controllers for 8bitdo stuff as well)
