On my RPi3 with the latest retropie version (4.1.11) I've noticed that when I launch a game there is quite a delay compared to my other Pi running software from roughly 3 weeks ago. For example, Launching Super Mario Bros. on both systems:

      RPi3 (~13secs)
      RP2 (~5secs)

Using the same USB gamepad for both.
      Both using lr-fceumm
      Official 2.5A PSU
Image from RetroPie website - v4.0 (but updated via RetroPie-Setup)

The Pi model (and maybe even software version) might be irrelevant but I'm trying to figure out what would have increased the launch time. Video Settings/Controllers/Config should be the same. Any ideas?

      Parameters:
      Executing: /opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-fceumm/fceumm_libretro.so --config /opt/retropie/configs/nes/retroarch.cfg "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/nes/Super Mario Bros. (World).zip" --appendconfig /dev/shm/retroarch.cfg

@bmos are you using the RetroAchievements feature? It can cause this issue. The retroachievements.org server isn't that powerful and this delay can be caused when RetroArch is trying to communicate with it.
