Kids/Kiosk Mode Question
-
Firstly, I love the work all of the devs have put into the Retropie project. I've tried a lot of frontends and can't come close to the stability vs features this project offers.
Does anyone know what I'd have to do to add the "UI Options" menu back into the Kids & Kiosk modes? I'd like to be able to easily switch back and forth instead of using the konami code to get back to Full.

I think the point of removing the UI OPTIONS menu from Kids/Kiosk mode is to keep children and others from possibly screwing something up badly.

@lilbud I completely understand that and can appreciate it. That's why I'm not suggesting it gets put into the official build or anything. I'm just asking if anyone can point me in the direction of where that menu is built.
So far, I'm going down the road of using the favorites instead. I can mark the ones I want to appear as favorite then just use the "Options" within a system to toggle back and forth. The only issue seems to be that it drops me to the command prompt when I switch back to showing all. And I can't enter any commands so I have to power cycle the pi.

@Jeck11 This feature was developed by @Zigurana, so he would be the best one to comment on this. I have not personally used it or looked into his code, so I can't really be of much help here. If you're comfortable with software development, the code is open source, so you can pull it down, read it, modify it, and even submit features into the official builds.

@MWGemini Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
I think @fieldofcows is already much further down the path of where I heading. I can't wait to see what he/she comes up with after reading through this thread: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/6985/metadata-improvements-in-emulationstation

@Jeck11 Hey! Thanks for trying this out.
I know the current version is kind of buggy, esp the favorite handling. Sorry for that. I've been putting off getting back into the code, mainly because I wanted to wait and see how fast the developments in the metadata handling, as proposed by @fieldofcows and @MWGemini would shape up. (see this thread ). That would make a lot of this kid/kiosk stuff obsolete, or it should at least be revisited/redesigned significantly.Still, it would be the better (more futureproof) solution, so I opted to wait for a bit.

@Zigurana what you did is great. I love having full ROM sets but only scrolling through 50ish good games per system. That way I can switch someone's request into the favorites list fairly easily.

@Jeck11 what he said :)
