problem with joystick in mame

Hi, need your help. I´m usin retropie 4.1 and using an arcade pad (mayflash arcade). When try to play in mame, press tab to enter the setup buttons but dont recognize directions with the stick, buttons are working ok but cant configure the direction with the stick. Anyone can help me? Thanks

@dr__maligno What hardware are you running and what MAME version? Noone can even begin to help you if you don't include basic information about your set up.

Im using a raspberry pi 2 model b, with retropie 4.1, emulation station version 2.1.4RP, mame4all . sorry i´m new if need something more tell me. thanks

I am having the same problem
Rasp3 B
Retropie latest version
Mayflash F300 Arcade Fight Stick
mame4all with the proper ROMS....they work with the keyboard but do not work with the Arcade Stick
I have read all of these docs and looked through youtube many times.
I too am looking for someone willing to help. If you do not have an answer than please do not make any comments.

@AlexMurphy I have pressed TAB, I am in the menu, I have selected Input This Game
It does not recognize my arcade joystick d-pad which has been configured through Emulation Station prior to all of this.
