Hi. Am newbie on here - have read the rules. Hope I comply.

      Pi model is 3 (earliest)
Retropie version is ? It doesn't tell me when I ssh into it but I downloaded in 2017.
1 USB game controller, mouse, keyboard.

My project this weekend is to get the game "Gauntlet" (the MAME version) working. Have tried before but gave up.

I have 2 MAME games working (nemesis and star force), they are in:
      /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade

I know MAME ROM versions are important, I will attach a screenshot of my es_systems.cfg file.

I have all these directories - where does it go?
      /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade/ (nemesis.zip works here)
      /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade/advmame/
      /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/arcade/mame2003/
      /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-advmame/
      /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretto/
      /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-mame4all/

I get the Gauntlet splash screen (the cabinet and text) then...
      gaunt lt1.9a not found
      ...
      ...
      Cheers peeps.

If you're sure that the rom is alright (does it work with other MAME emulators, like on PC?), It all comes down to what version of MAME romset your Gauntlet rom is taken from...

If you read up on the MAME page in the RetroPie wiki, it will all make sense. And the best part is, next time you want to put a game into MAME, you'll know exactly how to do it :)

@mxlothar said in Gauntlet MAME on Pi 3:

          gaunt lt1.9a not found

This message means that the rom that you have is not compatible with the emulator that you are launching it with. When you click on "Gauntlet" in arcade, what emulator is launching? Is it lr-mame2003? If so, you need the Gauntlet rom from the 0.78 romset. You should not go searching for individual roms as you will end up frustrated. Have a look at this guide I wrote that should clear up your issues if you do what I suggest. Gauntlet does work.

@Jobine he has for sure! Gauntlet 1+2 are running very fine since decades now if you have the right romset.
I answer this because i doubt that you will get an answer from the author after 3 years 😉
