Hi, I think now the theme is broken for previous versión of retropie. Anyway I will update to the latest version when I have time. The thing is i prefer not to update retropie because once it broke all my gamepad configs.
Thanks for this theme mate!
I did say in the post where I announced this release that it will not work in older versions of Emulationstation. However you don't need to update the whole of retropie, just update Emulationstation on it's own, you will need the latest version so update it from source:
To do this in Retropie go to the config menu and select the following:
Retropie Setup
Manage Packages
Manage Core Package
EmulationStation
Update From SourceIt will take a little while to compile but once it's finished you will have the latest version of ES.
Restart the system and you can then update the theme. -
@ruckage thx i will try that

@ruckage Have a red ale on me. I chose the red ale just to remind the Neo Geo X theme. It's an early thanks for that. :-)
-
I think it would be nice to add the ScummVM system to your theme.

Thanks, that really is kind - and I take the hint regarding the Neo Geo theme ;)

I've updated the Famicom-Mini theme so it's up to date with the Nes-mini theme now.
Gamelist bug is fixed and it now supports different resolutions including 4x3,.
I've updated the carousel to the new style and I've added 6 systems that were missing compared to the Nes theme.
I've taken advantage of selector bar image support to make the selector bar look nicer.
As with the Nes-mini update this requires the latest version of ES - it will not work with older versions of ES.
Below are some picture showing the system select in widescreen and the gamelist in 4x3.
On top of all that I've added a new style that you can select in the layout file - I think @meleu will appreciate this.

Pardon my ignorance, as I haven't kept up with progress on the theme, but does the new update support 32x and/or MSX? I absolutely can't get enough of how great this theme looks, especially when showing it to friends or people who ask what RetroPie is.

Donated to your beer fund. Thank you for making such an excellent theme.
It feels professionally done. Wonderful work.

Just installed your latest famicom-mini v2 theme and I love it!
Especially the new carousel design with those console icons is fantastic and matching the theme.
Those are the Japanese icons right?I would say this theme is complete, ...for now. And it is time to move on to the NeoGeo X theme. :-P
-
Ohh the new NEO-GEO style looks so nice, you should do more for the other systems :P
-
love this theme. How does one get the date of the system to display in the selection screen, I just have a bunch of question marks ????

No they aren't in yet but I have a todo list in the first post and those systems are on it.

Thanks. Yes, the sytem icon borders in this version are based on the Famicom Mini menus so that they match with the theme (though the pixel art consoles and logos are the same ones that I drew for the nes-mini theme) here's a comparison between the 2 different styles - both similar but famicom is rounder and has a shadow.

Glad you like it. I probably will do more, it was also a bit of a test to see how console specific borders may look for the Nes mini theme.

The date is part of the icon (not something ES adds) and shows the release date of the console/computer. It shows ???? for systems that have no specific release date such as 'arcade systems' and 'ports' as they cover various systems so a release date makes no sense for those.

Hey @ruckage !
Been following your development since your first post!
Thank you for making so many great changes to your amazing theme!
I am having an issue with the newest iteration though.
I have waited until 4x3 was officially supported and was anxious to try the newest version on my SD circa 1980 retro TV.
I am hooked up through an HDMI to RCA converter.
I compiled the new version of EmulationStation, changed the layout.xml to 640x480, 320x240, and 1024x768 but end up with the following each time...
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!

Hi. This may tricky to figure out as I don't have any of the equipment you mention for me to test. The best I can guess is that the actual resolution that you pi is outputting is not actually 4x3 as this would cause everything to be stretched like that. You can force the pi to output to a specific resolution but before doing that do you have any details on the HDMI to RCA converter you are using so I can find out what signals it accepts and then I can advise on how to fix it.

I think I know the cause - are you in the USA by any chance and using an NTSC screen? I've managed to replicate exactly what you have by displaying at a resolution of 720x486 which is NTSC resolution, this resolution though designed to be diplayed at 4x3 isn't 4x3 when going by the pixels themselves.
I'll work on adding a separate NTSC resolution, it will take a little while as I will have to rework a lot of elements (the 4x3 changes I've made won't be usable because as I said the pixel aspect ratio isn't technically 4x3). I may also have to do a pal version as well as again the pixel aspect ratio of that is also not 4x3 either but is totally different to NTSC.

@ruckage r
Yep! I'm in the USA!
Glad I'm not going crazy! I tried everything I know how to do and still couldn't figure it out.
Thanks for putting this on your to-do list... I really appreciate it!
Looking forward to what you come up with!

Exactly who is that in the pic? It looks like a genetic hybrid of Fred Sanford and Archie Bunker.
