Cardboard Mini NES + Nes mini and Famicom mini themes
-
Hi. Already being worked on - see this post from last week: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/8391/cardboard-mini-nes-nes-mini-and-famicom-mini-themes/896
-
I tried to install this theme two times now, but all I get is white background and text, no pictures. Downloaded and installed twice, same thing... using it on a Pi Zero w, any advice?

@mattmanforever , ha, I made it awhile ago i just finally got around to posting it,. Thanks!
Should have checked the update notes in the readme or looked in the SNES theme folder ;) - the alternate SNES icon has been included since the update 20 days ago. I'll let you off though, I guess most people don't see the readme as they install the theme through retropie.
I wonder if it would be possible to display the update notes when you install/update a theme.

You're not using the latest version of EmulationStation. This theme require the latest version to work so you will need to update it from source.
To do this in Retropie go to the retropie/config menu and select the following:
1. Retropie Setup
2. Manage Packages
3. Manage Core Package
4. EmulationStation
5. Update From SourceIt will take a little while to compile, once it's finished you will have the latest version of ES. Restart the system and the theme should work.

Thanks, you are right I was not.... actually I did not dare to install it, I have been working on a project and needed the gamecon-driver to work and I belive there is a bug or something... anyhow, I was afraid to update, before I could get the gamecon-driver to work...
Did not get it to work, so had to do a (way to big) workaround, so I will give this a try now and cross my fingers =) -
@zippiz
Updating just emulationstation on it's own shouldn't affect anything else so you should be okay. -

Well, its been going for more than half an hour maybe even close to a hour and is 29% now, thats more than a "little while" ;) Haha, I was thinking maybe it would take 15min or so...still so new at this.
Why would the theme need this btw?
-
@zippiz
It' probably slow because you're compiling on a pizero which isn't that fast - it doesn't take too long on rpi3.EmulationStation has had lots of changes and improvements the last few months and my theme takes advantage of many of them - the downside being that as these features aren't in the older versions of ES the theme won't work in them.
-
@zippiz
pi zero takes forever to compile anything
(BTW, looking forward to your clone NES in a controller "how-to" video. If postal tracking is to be believed, I should have mine tomorrow!) -
@ruckage thanks man, I'm offering my sincerest apology, I haven't updated in months. Like I said I'll just wait for everything gif to come and I'll be sure to donate to support a great theme.
-
Thank you for making this awesome theme :)
I can't update ES at all. Whenever I try it says "Could not install package(s): libvlc-dev libvlccore-dev vlc-nox"
Is anyone else having the same issue? -
Hi there. Great theme! This is probably the best RetroPie theme I have seen yet! I really like the touches you made to the games menu for Gameboy and Virtualboy. I see that there is an option to change the carousel icon to the US SNES logo. I saw that all I have to do is change the name, but where and how do I do that?
-
@mahcneto
Sorry, I don't know what could be causing that. As It's not a theme specific issue you would be better off asking the question in the Help and Support section of the forum where more people will see it. -

Hi.
There are 2 ways to do it.
Option 1:
Go to the nes-mini theme folder.
Find the SNES folder within it.
Open theme.xml in a text editorChange this line:
<path>./carousel_logo.png</path>
to
<path>./carousel_logo_US.png</path>Save the file.
Restart EmulationStationOption 2:
Go to the nes-mini theme folder.
Find the SNES folder within it.
Rename: carousel_logo.png to carousel_logo_EUR.png
Rename: carousel_logo_US.png to carousel_logo.png
Restart EmulationStation -
@ruckage hey brah, any idea when you will have a new update for this excellent theme?
-
@ruckage Thanks that seems easy enough. How do I find the nes-mini folder? In the File Manager?
-
@hyruleslink use winscp to get into your pi and go to /etc/pi/emulationstation/themes folder.
There you'll find the nes-mini theme with all systems. -
In your theme, did you make the "NESCyrillic_gamelist.ttf" font yourself or did you get it from somewhere? If you did get it from somewhere, where might that be? I'm asking because I noticed it was different from the regular NES Cyrillic font.
-
Hi! Thanks for this great theme!
But it's possible to remove number "played" or leave it to 0? I dislike this ....
I try to edit xml file but I don't found...Thanx for help!

Sorry for the late reply. The gamelist font is a modified version of a font I found on bitfontmaker2, I changed several characters and also the baseline height (necessary at the time to make it work correctly in this theme).
