Customize controller key bindings for config menus?

Hi! I'm using a Wii U Pro Controller which works fine in Emulationstation and in games. However, navigating the config menus like retropie-setup is not very good, because:
- You can only navigate with the analog stick (going through a list of hundred items takes a very long time, because you can't hold the stick for scrolling)
- The B key on the controller is "confirm"
- The A key on the controller acts like the right arrow key
Is there any way how this behavior can be changed?
