Sweet thanks @BenWilson. Found that i needed the neogeo.zip bio nested in there somewhere. Certainly working on the one that i tried. Not to try to configure controls.

          Cheers

Expanding on this tread now Ive got a few games working. The controls most definitely need some tweaking as i can exit out of a game and have to reboot from a shell. Also cant get the coin slot working from the arcade controls. Ive had a look on the wiki and edited the /home/pi/.gngeo/gngeorc refering to SDL_keysym.h for specific keystrokes. The gngeorc currently looks like this, anyone see anything wrong with that... or am i doing something wrong?

            p1control A=K306,B=K308,C=K32,D=K304,START=K49,COIN=K48,UP=K273,DOWN=K274,LEFT=K276,RIGHT=K275,MENU=K27
            p2control A=K97,B=K115,C=K113,D=K119,START=K50,COIN=K48,UP=K114,DOWN=K102,LEFT=K100,RIGHT=K103,MENU=K27

I thought lr-fba-next was the default neogeo emulator ?

@dankcushions Yeah not too sure, tried updating /opt/retropie/emulators/pifba/fba2x.cfg also, just in case. I assume that's the associated controls for lr-fba-next you refer to @dankcushions? Hasnt made any difference unfortunately.

@TheStrayMongrel Which emulator are you using to run the Neo Geo games?
It will be displayed as the game boots via the runcommand menu (you can alter the emulator you want by using this menu):
                    https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/runcommand

With Neo Geo and all arcade games, it is extremely important you use the correct romsets - e.g. 0.78, 0.139 etc..
You can see exactly which emulator uses which romsets here:
                    https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs

The same link also shows you where the controller config file is for each emulator.

If you are using gngeo, this video may help

Please read the Docs before asking a new question.

Thanks for that @Floob, checked the emulator and its defaulting to the lr-fba-next emulator. Just couldnt get this working so tried the gngeo and jackpot, both 1 and 2 player work, can access the menu and also am able to exit out of a games which is great. The only problem I'm having is the coin buttons. The only way i can seem to be about to get credits into the machine is to press the "0" key on the keyboard. Have set the gngeo to K=48 to correspond to the keyboard stroke but still no dice. Any other ideas?

@TheStrayMongrel You'll need to set a coin button for both players I think.

                        Here is a keyboard map:
                        https://www.libsdl.org/release/SDL-1.2.15/include/SDL_keysym.h

Also, you can find more links about gngeo here:

Ball's up on my part, had the key allocation arse about. Got it sorted now using gngeo and its working well. Doesnt seem to be full screen like lr-fba-next (slight border round the outside) but im sure thats in the settings somewhere so will get it sorted out. Not a massive issue if i cant.

Thanks very much for the help everyone. :)
