Hi there ! :) (sorry for this topic title, my english level is as bad as my sense of humor :| )

anyway, I'll be in a close future a new user of retropie, so please be merciful, i'm not experimented at all in that domain atm ; I'm planning of building a retropie console in the next days using a raspberry pi 3 model B to play with friends - mostly on multiplayer old games.

And so I was checking performance "benchmarks" of the pi 3 B + retropie 4 on some emulators running games i'm interested in (and some emulators's game compatibility list).

mostly it's intended to run mame 2d games, Snes and Genesis games, which runs quite perfecly through retropie as i've seen, which is great ! But also I'm interested on more recent games ; for example :

Power Stone 2 (on DC), Mario Kart 64, Saturn Bomberman and some psx games.

And so I've checked informations/feedback and test on those games running on retropie around the internet and find out that most of them works well ( i didn't find anything on saturn bomberman, as it seems that saturn seems to be really hard to emulate in the first place). But I've read here and there that some games from the 32bit (and 64bit) era works well but suffer some framerate loss from times to times.

Reading that, I also read several times that overclocking the cpu to 1.4 Mhz can solve some of those problems. From this point, that would mean that I should buy a case equiped with a cpu fan, and no just a heat diffuser, to keep the cpu safe from overheating.

But still, is it safe to overclock to 1.4 Mhz ? and moreover, is it worthy in your experience ?

thanks in advance for your guidance !

@crasse first thing as a new user. Do not overclock at all until you have everything set up and running good. Otherwise when you come asking for help you are just adding another problem to the mix making it harder to diagnose any issues you have.

@edmaul69 seems logic :) so yeah I'll start by the standard installation of everything, then try to run every games I wish to play on, and then see if I need any other manipulation ! (I'll buy and install the raspberry pi in the fan equiped case in case of I need to try it out.)

thanks for your guidance edmaul69 !
