@obsidianspider thats why i put pi’s in real consoles and use all original controllers. I can enjoy the old school feel with new technology.

is just a mock up, I was checking the retro freak console menu, they do a great job to create the frontend, but with emulationstation's theme options we can create something similar as you see, for example a retrofreakpie theme hehe 0_1510247842467_freakpie theme.jpg

Yesterday I successfully replaced the capacitors in a Game Gear. I originally bought it to put a Pi inside, but later decided to try to repair it. I'm glad I did. Now that it's working I'm looking at modding it to have a LED backlight, and also to switch it over to use a LiPo battery instead of the rechargeable six AAs it uses now.

Did another trip to the store that sells all the retro stuff for crazy prices and I saw this.

                alt text

16200Yen!!!?? ($144 USD or 107 GBP) insane considering that I have never seen any PAL games over here. Not even one. And on top of that it would not run over here since the TV can only process NTSC.

How much are they going for these days anyway?

That's expensive. The price varies quite a bit but you can get a boxed NES with some games for under £100. An un-boxed unit with controller can be bought for £40 - £60 depending on condition.

I'm willing to bet they would be even cheaper in the USA as they were much more common and they would also be NTSC which should mean they would work on a Japanese TV.

I'm guessing they want that much because it's rare. I dunno, that seems really high, or it's for people who can't bother to look on eBay.

I ordered some EverDrives during Krikzz's Black Friday sale. Two haven't shipped yet due to them being on back order, but the first three are here and they're fantastic.

A bonus that I discovered is that .srm files from lr-snes9xseem to work on the SD2SNES, so saved games from my RetroPie build(s) can be transferred to play on real hardware, at least from the games I tried it with.

@obsidianspider .srm are the same as .sav files. I've had success renaming and moving them between many devices and platforms.

Awesome you got some everdrives though. I want some too. Is the sale still on?

@mrjordaaany The sale has ended, but in years past it has been on Black Friday.

@flyingtomahawk they’re flash carts. They let you play games from SD cards on real hardware (no emulation). The EverDrives made by Krikzz are widely regarded as some of the best in the world.

At those prices they must be good otherwise they wouldn't sell well.

$211 including shipping for everything in the picture. It was from a US seller. The EverDrive alone sells for $118 plus shipping. It included a micro SD card, so that’s worth a few dollars. A bare console sells for $80 all day long and I often see dog bones sell for $30 each on eBay. The three real Famicom games that the seller included weren’t mentioned in the auction but they all work and seem to be authentic.

I did some reading and apparently Japan has 100V AC and with US having ~120V it’s recommended to get an aftermarket power supply or a step down converter, the Famicom works beautifully, but I don’t want to damage it so I will look into another power adapter even thought the authentic Nintendo one seems to work fine.

I noticed that the FDS games don’t all sound correct and apparently that’s because the EverDrive can’t handle the FDS expansion audio properly so I want to find a cheap FDS RAM adapter and then get a FDStick just ordered a FDSStick and bought a RAM Adapter from eBay.
