Retro game stuff talk

@celly Ahh … that reminds me of my 8-bit home computer times. I had quite a collection of Commodore 64 tapes. *sigh* I gave them all away to a relative in Eastern Germany after the reunification.

I have quite a bit of loose Gameboy carts. A while ago I seen a video on making custom cases for them (and TG16) using old tape cassette cases. Long story short, last time I was at my local game trading spots, I swooped up on a few free cassettes laying around and thought I’d give it a try. I’m quite impressed on how it turned out. Took 5 minutes resizing image template in Photoshop, a pair of scissors and some flush cutters.
Does the cartridge just slide around in there or did you do something inside of the case?

It's been a while since I posted some pickups, so here are my retro game finds since my last update. I also recently got a Switch, but you know what those look like.
スーパーマリオランド2 6つの金貨
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins for Game Boy
星のカービィ 夢の泉の物語
Hoshi no Kirby: Yume no Izumi no Monogatari for Famicom
The less common silver Game Boy Advance carrying case
テトリス Tetris for Game Boy
Mr. Driller for WonderSwan Color
Vectorman 2 for Genesis
伝説のスタフィー4
Densetsu no Stafy 4 for Nintendo DS
伝説のスタフィー たいけつ!ダイール海賊団
Densetsu no Stafī: Taiketsu! Daīru Kaizokudan for Nintendo DS
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga for Game Boy Advance
This 8" 4:3 aspect ratio screen was pretty inexpensive from AliExpress. I don't know what I'm going to make with it yet, but it's not common to see screens that aren't 16:9 anymore.
I picked up some Tiny Arcades from Walmart. Ms. Pac-Man is going to a friend and I'll be modding Pac-Man and Space Invaders
ぷよぷよ通
Puyo Puyo Tsū for WonderSwan
伝説のスタフィ
Densetsu no Stafy for Game Boy Advance

With some bezel you can make an original Macintosh Pi!
-
@LiveFastCyYoung right now the cart has play in it but I will buy some 3M adhesive felt and put a small piece inside to keep the cart in place.

So fbeepcking cool …
-
@Clyde Yeah, if I ever find a dead mac I am so doing this!
Currently finishing my Commodore 314 (pi inside c64) and next I will be making PI99/3B (Pi inside TI99/4A).It is slow, but I love giving old, dead hardware a new life. The mods I am making are 100% reversable, I am using 3d printed brackets to make everything fit inside the original case.

@celly weren't you eyeing a TI-99? Maybe @Cybrasty has some tips
-
@obsidianspider ha! It was a screamin deal but also a bit beyond the kind of project I wanted to take on. Besides, I really didn’t want to piss those TI purists off. 😳
-
@celly There was one point back in the heydey of the Amiga and Mac where the Amiga could emulate the top of the line Mac (I think that model was the "quadra" or something similar) and get more performance than the real machine. If you were getting support from Mac enthusiasts and let it slip you were emulating on an Amiga, they got HYPER pissed. Apparently you don't defile the purists' turf. LOL...

While not retro per se, I think you may appreciate the custom console cabinet I built with my dad. It was mainly made out of 3/4" plywood over the course of a few weekend, then I had to wait a month for the paint to cure. Last night after work I finally loaded it up and there's a minimal rats' nest of wires considering everything that is going on. Now I just need more consoles. ;)
-
I ordered myself an Odroid-Go for my birthday and had to wait until the actual day (which was today), to open it. My son and I put it together in about 5 minutes and flashing the sd card and transfering roms was simple. I’m really enjoying this and can’t wait to case mod it a bit.
-
@celly Does it play Tetris? I heard that's a good game.

But, can it run Crysis? https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/but-can-it-run-crysis
-
@obsidianspider Ha! Yeah, I got all my favorite Tetris versions loaded up and tested them last night. Even Tengen Tetris for NES.

Nothing new lately here. Hard Off has rather a boring selection a the moment. Nothing worth mentioning.
So i thought i tease you guys a bit with some of my stuff that i found while cleaning up the house.
But before that there is something I would like to ask you guys. Not sure, some of you might have seen or heard about them but long time ago Rockstar released the game The Warriors on Xbox and I can't recall where I got them from but I have these promotional 14 gang pin badges from that game and was wondering if you guys know what the value for such a complete set is?
I think they gave one random pin badge when you pre-ordered the game at that time so having the complete 14 pin set must have some value right? And here some of my other rare stuff.
-
@FlyingTomahawk I don’t know anything about the pin set, but that Game & Watch and those Game Boys! Wow! I’ve bought some stuff lately, but I didn’t want to flood the post. I’ll have to get some pictures from my Instagram.

Super Mario Bros 2 - NES
Final Fantasy IV - Game Boy Advance
Another of those Burger King Game Boy Color toys
Sony PocketStation
Sega Nomad (with more scratches than in the auction photo thanks to the seller just throwing it in a box with no packing material)
Yggdra Union - Game Boy Advance
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World - Wii
Spider-Man Nintendo Classics Keychain
I found a nicer Nomad which, while not mint, has a nicer case than the first one. The first one will get a screen mod.
Tales of Symphonia - GameCube
Puyo Puyo Tsuu - Game Boy
Super Puzzle Fighter II - Game Boy Advance
Super Nazo Puyo - Super Famicom
Super Puyo Puyo - Super Famicom
Tales of Phantaisa - Game Boy Advance
Sword of Mana - Game Boy Advance
Mario vs. Donkey Kong - Game Boy Advance
Lunar Legend - Game Boy Advance
Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land - Game Boy Advance
I added a touch activated RGB backlight controller to a DMG
Wario Land 3 - Game Boy Color
Star Ocean - Super Famicom
Tales of Phantasia - Super Famicom
Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament - Game Boy Advance
Lunar: Dragon Song - Nintendo DS
And today I added a SATA hard drive adapter to my PS2 and soft modded it
-
Nomad!!!
Oh man its been so long sine I have seen one.
Does it play only US games?
How much do they go for right now? -
@FlyingTomahawk In theory they only play US Genesis games, but you can mod them to play MasterSystem games. I have an EverDrive, and from what I've seen Japanese games seem to work. I haven't tried anything PAL.
The scratchy nomad I got will be getting a MasterSystem mod while I have it open for the screen upgrade.
They regularly go for around $200 on eBay (even the battery packs alone are like $80)
I got mine for around $115 each including shipping. Not cheap, but a good price considering how much they currently go for.
Now I really want to make a portable Super Nintendo. If I can find a beat to hell Super Nintendo/Famicom Junior, I think the motherboard would work for a (big) handheld.
I'm still on the look for non-crazy expensive Lynxes, Game Boy Micro, Neo Geo Pocket Color, a non-gray Game Gear to a McWill mod on, Virtual Boy, and a Turbo Express/PC Engine GT, but they all tend to be really expensive.
Also, if you ever come across a SuperGrafx that is in working condition on your outings, please let me know.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
