Has anyone gotten any of the WWF No Mercy Hacks to work on the Pi? I tried them super quick before work without success. I tried 2k17 and Legends. They may require PJ64, which would be a bummer.

This is the greatest hack ever. It takes a great game and makes it infinitely better. I cannot believe how much more fun this classic is with this simple hack.

CASTLEVANIA: IMPROVED CONTROLS
Complete list of changes:

• Enables the player to control their x-velocity in mid-air while jumping (including while jump-attacking).
• When releasing the jump button, one immediately starts falling again; this allows the player to make smaller hops if desired.
• After being knocked back, the player regains control after a split second and can angle their fall.
When walking off an edge, the player retains control instead of dropping straight down.
• The player can jump off of stairs at any point in the climb (however, it is still impossible to land on stairs, so be careful jumping from long flights of stairs over pits)

Starting as a doodle jump clone, this homebrew is in active development and the current version is stable and playable. Definitely fun!

I found and added some interesting Homebrew stuff for the NES.

NES (homebrew)

All tested and working and free to download. Some or even most are more like prototypes or demos and became full games later and was sold on their webpage. But these versions are free and mainly made for an open competition. On screenshots, they might be looking boring, until you start and play the game.

Edit: Some of those are really cool. I marked my personal favorites with bold text and an exclamation mark to highlight them. You definitely should try them out.

@shavecat Nice to see you here too. :-) And thank you for the "contribution". Just a small note on my previous posting here: Homebrew means completely new games programmed by someone from the community. This thread contains both, romhacks and homebrew.

I recently also added Super Mario World Odyssey. It is sad that the make stopped developing it. On a different thread a relatively new romhack of Super Mario Bros for the NES came out. It allows two player simultaneously playing the regular SMB. We discussed it here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/19333/best-nes-rom-hacks/13. And btw, the first reply on top of the thread includes a small list of my favorite Romhacks.

Other Castle based on Super Castlevania 4
This is one of those hacks which don't change a lot of the games mechanic or graphics. It is all about new level design, like a dlc. If you like the regular game how it is, but want new level challenges, then this is for you. There are two difficulty patches, one that is more like the games original difficulty and one that is much harder.
'the based on Super Mario World
I don't want spoiler anything, just categorize it (btw, still have to finish myself). This game/modification is not the usual level design stuff. The game is more a atmospheric story telling in style of creepypasta. Don't expect a normal game, I tried it out because of the high praise and the recent Halloween event.
Wario Land SNES based on Super Mario World
This is a full remake of Wario Land 1 from the Game Boy! Off course the Mario World engine have many differences, but the whole artistic style, music and level design is pretty close to something we could get officially. Btw, it is version 2 of the patch, which removed a lot of previously known bugs.

Honorable mention: I did not include Donkey Kong 3: Another Rise! into my collection, because level design is unbalanced and gets too hard later. Take a look, it is still amazing (I may change my mind in the future also).

Hell Crawlers based on Ms. Pac-Man
A creative hack of a Pac Man game. I never would imagine someone doing something like this. This is not just a reskin, its a different game. The whole art and music composition have some oppressive style to it, right from the hell. Gameplay mechanic is still collecting stuff, but there are some differences, which you should explore yourself.
Over the Moon based on Metroid 1
First I did not want to include another Metroid mod - but changed my mind. It came out this year and its a complete new game. The mechanics are still the same, but whole graphics and story are changed; you play as an alien space cow! The developer tried to do the same thing what made the original game great, but without the boring parts like grinding or a lot of backtrack.
Super Mario Balloon based on Balloon Fight
This is basically a re-skin without touching the gameplay. It is really good and I didn't know that I needed it. The whole graphics are changed to Mario universe, colors are so nice. And to me most importantly, the sound of enemies are changed, which i really dislike in the original game. Make the game just better.
Two Players Hack based on Super Mario Bros 1
This is the reason why I started to dig another time into the world of mods an romhacks. It came out recently last month and hit the modding scene like a bomb. Why? The mod itself is not doing sooo much, the whole game is the same, it just adds a second player to be played simultaneously. Because both player need to reach the end, it makes the game much more difficult and adds a new layer of depth to it. Definitely check this out!

Honorable mentions: These Super Mario Bros 1 mods came out very recently and are not included in my collection, but still want mention them. The levels itself are all the same. In Super Enemy Fire the enemies are shooting at you and you don't get any power ups. In Super Mario Edge is no scrolling and the player have to reach the edge of the current screen to proceed (I did not play this, hopefully my description is correct). And finally Super Mario: Neon Edition is a re-skin only, with changed graphics to match a neon-ish like art style.

This is just about the coolest hack ever! Get ready to play Super Mario Bros the same way you play Mario Wii.... by inadvertently killing your co-op partner ever 30 seconds! This is just awesome and so much fun! It gets really hard on later levels! Google this on romhacking.net!
