I'm running a fully up to date raspberry pi 3 and when I select a game from the list lr-mame2003 dumps me back to emulation station. I rebuilt my roms from the .78 day and have all files non merged and the log says it cannot find any of the files needed to run any game at all

@crazyp In order to provide suggestions and assistance, you need to post more detail such as the log and the location that you placed the roms in. See link at the top of the page for other useful info that would enable support.

The issue is one of these:

        Either:

        1. Incorrect romset pairing with lr-mame2003, i.e. not 0.78 - is it a verified reference set?
        2. Missing BIOS, e.g. neogeo.zip - should be in the same location as roms
        3. Incorrect location of romsets
        4. You might not be using lr-mame2003 even though you think you are.

          Hello I'm new here :)

I have quite the same problem as @crazyp .

I own a Pi 3 Model B and I figured out how to make roms for different machines to function properly. But then, I tried to play Mame games and hurt a high wall.
          I downloaded

          MAME2003_Reference_Set_MAME0.78_ROMs_CHDs_Samples_archive

          Simple questions :

          • Where do I put my bios.zip in my retropie directories ?
          • Where do I put my *.dat ?
          • What do I do with CHD ?

          Thank you very much

A dat file is not required. All the information you need is in the above link and in this one:

You really need to read this article:

              https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Validating,-Rebuilding,-and-Filtering-Arcade-ROMs/

If you want to take the easiest path, use lr-fbalpha Google it's romset download it, and upload the roms to the FBA rom folder.

Just upload everything trough SMB. It's much faster and easier. In Windows Explorer just type the following in the address bar and hit enter: \\retropie\

The bios and roms folder are there. From here you also have acces to the config files. In my opinion the easiest way.

@rbaker I rebuilt my romset from the dat provided on retropie.org.uk all noms and chds are accounted for.
roms are located on a network share mounted at /home/pi/RetroPie/roms. made noms are in the same-libretro folder. all roms are seen by emulations station. other emulators work fine FBA, NES etc.
when the run command window appears on screen it says its loading lr-mame2003.
I have linked the run command.log file. Im at a loss it all seems to look good to me and it used to work fine.
                runcommand.log

@crazyp According to your runcommand log you are missing ALL of the files for this ROM. The zip contains 7 files, I just unzipped it to have a look. Have you tried looking in the zip to see if they are actually there or is it an empty zip file? If the files are inside the zip then there is an issue with your file path / how your share is mounted.

@AlexMurphy the files are definitely there I figured it would be a path issue. It's weird that it only affects mame. It seems to affect every rom though saying every file is missing. Every other emulator works fine

I found the problem. I re-read the wiki page on network shares and must have missed the part about making sure the roms are not marked read only. After removing the read only attribute from the roms lr-mame2003 loads the games just fine.
