Retroarch RGUI menu buttons not working
-
It's the entire RGUI. I use the hotkeys to enter the menu and all I can do is scroll. I am unable to select any of the options. Neither the joystick or keyboard will select anything.
-
The up and down arrows work on the keyboard, but the X / Z keys do nothing?
It should be as per the retropad:
https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/wiki/RGUI#navigating-the-menuWhich version of RetroPie are you running?
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first -
Correct. The arrow keys or joystick work but the x,y,a,b buttons do not. Pushing start just exits the menu. I am running retropie 4.1 and did a complete update last night but still have the same issue.
Here is what I built and what was instructed to use to get the joystick and buttons working. Everything else seems fine except for retroarch menu. The setup part is towards the bottom.

Can you post your /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg on pastebin?
-
I can remote into the pi but for the life of me I can't figure out how to copy the text or the file from my windows machine. I am using putty to remote into it and can view the config file but can't copy it. Can someone help with that?

Are you holding Select (your Escape key) and pressing "s" to get into the menu? And for exit you are holding Select, or just tapping Enter?
Have you tried pressing all the keys at a command line to make sure they are outputting as expected? -
If I use the controller buttons I have to press select and one of the buttons to enter the menu. For exit, I just push the start button. I have tried pushing all the keys on the keyboard when hooked up but only enter works to exit. I have not tried all key at the command prompt.

The keyboard does work to enter my wifi password in emulation station.
-
Anyone have any other ideas to try? I am at a lost as to how to fix this issue.
-
What happens if you disable hotkeys altogether and go into the RGUI, do your A/B respond then?
So comment out these - or set to "nul"?input_enable_hotkey_btn = "escape" input_enable_hotkey = "escape"

@Floob Same result

I still for the life of me can't figure out why the buttons do not work in the RGUI. I may see if the adafruit guys that made the tutorial might know what is up.
-
I installed 4.2 yesterday and now within retro arch i can only use the directional up and down buttons. No other buttons seem to work with the keyboard. My ps3 controller works just fine.
-
Sorry to hear that but I'm glad I'm not the only one. Hopefully we will get it figured out soon.

I just wanted to bump and see if anyone might have some additional info on this.

Can someone help a guy out! I would really like to be able to navigate the retroarch menu to change a few things but can't. Has anyone else had this issue?
-
Hey peeps.
Also reporting in. Having the same issue on multiple occasions. It works, then something happens and now it don't work. I can't imagine what i did that changed this. Even the editing the /all/ config wont change it. Even when changing the settings in Retroarch from the Attract Mode menu it doesn't work. Its like the emulator is taking up its own configs, but not from the folder it says it gets them from. Its odd.Hoping we can find out what the issue is :) I'll keep you up to date if something happens.
-
Just wondering if you found any solutions yet?

Hey :) Sorry for the late reply. I have been able to fix it, but it has been about a week of just constant narrowing down and pushing buttons and reflashing. A thing i did was to learn that almost all controller setups have SOME way of opening the Retroarch menu. What i did was push combinations. Push one button and combine it with another. And then just keep doing that until you have used all buttons in combination with all other buttons. Start + B, Select + B, RT + B etc.
The other way is to SSH into your PI via your computer and navigate to the config location and replace all config files with a fresh set from another image. Both these methods have worked for me.I hope any of this can at least be a little help. Just got my system back up and running again and i now know it better than i ever have before.
