RetroPie Nes Emulator vs Android Nes Emulator. Both HDMI, but big resolution difference.
-
Hi,
I use both retropie nes emulator and Android nes emulator. They both have hdmi output, but Android has significantly better resolution. I tried to change many settings but still I have giant pixels on RetroPie. Any help? Thanks in advance. -
@hakan1708 no such thing as better resolution. The native output is 640 x480 (or perhaps even less for the SNES)
You can turn on smoothing and it will blur your pixels making you think it has better resolution but regardless the output resolution does not change.

@herb_fargus Thanks. I played with shaders. Looks much better. The only thing I need to fix now is the long horizontal lines.

indeed it could also be that the android emulator is applying a scale filter im not familier with android emulators so whatever your using could be setup to automaticly use it
out of curiosity try applying a scale filter like Hq2x or somthing else from the emulators shader menu(assuming your using a libretro core) and see if you get a similer result to the android one
other than that herbs post sums it up teh increased resolution is mearly an upsized images of the original i tihnk the NES's native res is 256x240 or somthing there abouts so running at 1080p for instance simply stretches the image to that size hence the giant pixels without a filter of some kind personally i dont like filters i like my image crisp and pixelised witha few exceptions i use an lcd effect on gb/c/a games
edit
damn internet lagging on me glad your sorted -
@blackshadow I used the shaders and smoothing but now there is long horizontal lines :( please see the image

@blackshadow I used crt-pi curvature. That's the best so far but with long horizontal lines.
-
@hakan1708 it's a scanline shader. It's supposed to have lines (to mimic a CRT).
-
@BuZz Is that how the original nes looks like? Is there anyway to get rid of these lines? Here is another image that you can see the lines better:
-
@hakan1708 use a different shader. And read https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Shaders-and-Smoothing/
-
@BuZz thanks. I'll try them all. Hopefully one of them will fix the problem.
