Mame Rom Error

Total NOOB here. My brother suggested that I get a Raspberry pi3 since the NES Classic is MIA or quadruple the price. I bought a kit. Put it all together. Set my controller up. Got some ROMS. All SNES, NES, Genesis Roms work like a champ. I however can't get any MAME roms to work. They either have errors or don't load at all. I have a total of 4 of them that work. Am I not doing something right? Did I not update something? I've tried everything I can think of or could find on youtube. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Lots of help around to see why they are not working due to the version of the rom is not the same as the emulators version used by the pi.

You need the right romset (=version) for the specific mame core (=emulator) you're using.

@Shrednoise321 It's not about luck. You need the correct ROM set for the MAME version you are running. Anyway, it's all detailed in the docs.

Thank you. Trying to find that as soon as I do, I will get it. Sorry. After a bunch of tries its hard to be optimistic....
