New NES overlays

@UDb23 LOL
note: I've originally posted a wrong image on my previous post. Fixed with the correct image (Rockman).

I'm crying with laughter over here!!
-
@meleu I was looking for the image on the web right now... found the one you fixed.
Also this was the EU version:

Nothing to do with NES but "mame crap" made me cry (with laughter) even more a few days ago. :-D

I'm crying (with laghter) looking at this image after reading that letter ordering the art:
"Let's give some focus to Mega Man blasting away at a robot's genitals. (...) Like everyone, Mega Man hates robot reproductive organs. (...)
Make sure he's looking at the genitals. EXTREMELY important." -

@UDb23 Just arrived in home and tried to install the Mega Man 3 overlay and noticed a problem with a double quote symbol in info.txt. Submitted a PR fixing it.
Here's the screenshot:

@meleu Ops..again. Should re-check files before uploading.
It's not an excuse but it's because this time I used the Macbook for doing the ovl while the program to automatically generate the CFGs is on my PC.
Therefore manual editing of the files...and error...Merged now.
Anyway, screenshot looks quite well to me; also the color combination with the actual game (of course it may be different on other levels... as said I didn't know these games).

@meleu do you have any advice for a newbie that wants to play through Mega Man 1 for the first time?
Advice #1
Look at yourself in the mirror and repeat 3 times: "I am a tough guy!" There's no E-tank in this game. And no passwords. If you want to beat the game you have to play from the start (oh! I'm assuming you use retroachievements and hardcore mode enabled. If you use savestates you don't have to be that tough.)
Advice #2
Train your memory. Those parts where there are blocks appearing and disappearing demand a good memory. :-)
Advice #3
There's a "bug" in this game that you can use to your advantage when facing bosses. You know those fractions of a second after the boss take a hit, he becomes invulnerable and blinks? Well, if you hit the boss and immediatly press select (pause) the boss blinks for those fractions of a second and becomes vulnerable again. Yes, it happens even with the game paused!
I mean, if you shoot quickly and pause immediately after the boss is hit, wait a second and unpause, your next shot will cause damage again! And if you do it when using the Elecman's weapon it's a guarantee of success!
OK... It's cheating, but maybe you like to have this ace up your sleeve when facing the Yellow Devil. :-)

That is a crazy bug! Thanks for the tips! I'll see how frustrating the bosses are and as a last resort I might use this...ahem...bug.

making a cool image with the original Mega Man boxart can be challenging. :-)
and here comes the overlay!!!
Used Japanese Box art... therefore used same style for the logo as original Rockman...but says Mega man ;-)
If anybody dares to ask for the US box art... they'll get a downvote from me :-))
-
@UDb23 Nicely done!!
Just a small request, if I'm not daring to much... Could you change the Roll image with a Mega Man one?
No, it's not a case of misogyny! I love girls! :-) It's because Roll just appeas very briefly during the ending of the game...
Maybe this image inspired in the original Rockman title screen:
-
Fun fact: in the original Japanese version, some names are music-related. For example, Dr. Light created Rock and Roll. :-)
update: also, Proto in Japanese version is Blues.
-
@meleu sure, I'll replace Roll ;-)
-
@UDb23 Overlay updated. Good thing with posting linked images is... that they update with no need to edit post.
Let me know if it's ok for you.
-
@UDb23 Looks great! I'll post a screenshot when I have time. Thanks!
-
@UDb23 The rom config file for Mega Man overlay sets
video_scale_integer = "true"
and it looks like this:
I commented the
video_scale_integer
line and it seems to look better:
Both screenshots with lr-fceumm.
-
@meleu scale integer should not be there (not for this game)
Delete or comment provides right layout as you already found out.
As previously said I should not "patch around" with overlay images late at night ;-)
