[New Theme] Cygnus, with support for video and carousel features
-
@shamrock it's themeable in the latest version of emulationstation. I didn't get rid of it, it's the logo in the bottom middle of the system screen
-
I like it!
-
@ChoccyHobNob Thanks. Is there anyway you can share that snippet of code. I am a beginner working on a theme to the best of my (in)ability.
-
@shamrock I got it from @mattrixk's toolkit here https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/9047/emulationstation-toolkit-theme-making-helper
-
This is awesome!
-
@shamrock: The BaseVid theme in the ES Toolkit has examples of how to theme the Carousel.
@ChoccyHobNob: Looks really good. One small thing I noticed is the the "xx games available" looks a little out of place. You could put it in line with the Help text, and maybe even make it the same size/colour so it sort of flows a bit more.
-
@ChoccyHobNob I agree with @mattrixk about the "xx games available" section. My neurotic design-mind wants it perfectly aligned and sized with the help bar. I think I'll do the same with my next theme; great idea!
-
@mattrixk I've never tried changing the font of the help text, should be interesting. I used your example and tweaked btw, so your basevid theme doesn't match the help text either ;)
-
@ChoccyHobNob Hmm... the BaseVid theme is based on another one that I'm currently working on, but with a lot of the custom image stuff ripped out. I thought I had the Help stuff set up, but I guess not.
-
@mattrixk Mine has matching fonts, colours, sizes and positions now :) coming along but the final set of art is the hardest bit

I know what you mean. I've been working on the Indent theme for months. The art just takes so long. I just had 2 weeks off work, I had intended to get the theme finished, but I haven't touched it. I did get to play some actual games though, which was awesome.
-
This looks nice, can't wait to see it complete!
-
Looks veeeeeeery cool !
Can't wait to test it on my Pi !
Go ahead !
regards,
SK

Just the readme and some last minute testing to do now. Then I can put this online.
@herb_fargus how do I get this added to the theme picker/gallery in retropie? Is there any specific way I need to prepare it? I was just going to upload to github for each of the 4 styles (full, nometa, simpleart, nometa-simpleart) is that the best way?
-
@ChoccyHobNob you need to name your repo
es-theme-yourtheme
and then submit a pull request like this one:https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/pull/1964/files
You can either have multiple themes for each style or one theme with multiple xmls that's users can manually switch out depending on how different your theme versions are.

You can have a look at the Io theme for an example of this.
-
@mattrixk I tried using templates to reduce the code duplication but ES didn't let me change stuff that has to be drawn after other stuff. There is some setting of values and then changing of values depending on the view.
I'm sure its possible, I'll have another go at it for the next update. This time though it's a different xml for each style.
I've got the color schemes set up like templates and the users can change those if they wish.
-
@herb_fargus ok that's simple, I'll do that today, there are 4 layouts and three colours, ill submit each layout as a thing and leave the colours up to the user.
I have updated versions of the Eudora themes as well. AmadhiX never merged my pull request to fix a bug in the theme so I assume they are now abandoned. If I add all the current systems to those is it ok to just make a pull request to change the repo from AmadhiX's to mine?

I bought a raspberry pi to play games, it's the thing i do the least.

It's funny how that happens. As much as I love retro games, most of my enjoyment comes from getting the games to work well.
