    I would like to add video previews to my now full 32gb sd card. So would i be able to have them separately stored on an external drive without retropie copying over all thr roms to it? Basically...sd for roms...usb for snaps etc.

    I know about the rom service and retropie mount folder thingy but it appears to copy all the stuff. Is this true or not?...

    Just thought I'd ask before shifting loads of data about and getting in a mess.

      yes, but you'd have to disable retropie's USB service and setup the relevant symbolic links yourself. the latter requires some linux commandline stuff.
