Help for a newbie
-
Hello all,
I'm a game collector but also looking for an emulation system as I'm never going to be able to afford to buy all the games I'd like to play.
I've been doing my research and the retro pie seems to be one of the best options so I am keen to give it a go.
However I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to programming etc, and can see myself struggling to get it running and just having a frustrating experience.
I'm not really sure where to start, and what I need to buy for the smoothest and most reliable set up.
Any advice welcome.
Thanks

@dankcushions would be better to point new users to the website version of the docs - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/First-Installation/

@buzz i need to start doing that :/ the wiki is always the ones in my history!
the other thing that bugs me about the docs is I can't see/get the direct links to subsections. eg: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Nintendo-64/ - how can I get a link to the 'Controls' subsection? In the wiki a little link icon would appear on mouse over. in the docs version, i get a table of contents on some pages but not others. eg, it appears on: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Nintendo-DS/

@justanothergamer it's very easy , but you gotta plunge in balls deep..... So much info about just need a pi anyone you prefer sd card and a controller... But as a games collecter you should have all the small bits keyboard/controllers etc ...... No special hardware needed (batteries not included)

@dankcushions the table of contents is very picky about the heirarchy of headings. The TOC will show up if the wiki page is formatted correctly
I wrote up a guide on the nuances of the parser:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Docs/wiki/Editing-the-Wiki
n64 page is a bit of crapfest anyways due to all the plugins and whatnot.

I thought RetroPie did everything for you...but this is coming from a guy that has "built 'em by hand" for 20 years....
RetroPie does make it easier..but Linux halts a lot of that stuff for noobies...
what we need is an "ArcadeOS" (no not minwah's DOS frontend (Yes i go back that far)) or a "EmulationsOS"..
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
