Suggestions for a SMALL screen installation
I am working on widening menus by default if on small screen.

@Hex ,
That sounds great! does widening it also make the font bigger? -
@thex Probably can be done. Will try

Outside of RetroPie - add a column to the ES Themes page to identify "optimized for small screens?"
I started to make this happen with this list
But I already got a small talk with @hex - which small theme is really small.
So currently we have 3 optimized for 3,5"- IO (cool theme, maybe the smallest in footprint!)
- GambeBoy Zero - GBZ3,5 (very cool theme)
- TFT theme

I have no problems with kids mode. Just that I will not be working on that.

@hurricanefan change the permissions of the gamelist.xml files in
/opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/gamelists/
So they dont have write permissions, they at least cant save to the gamelist.xml files. I would do the same thing with your images as well so they wont change any either.

@edmaul69 I didn't even think of that. That's a neat idea.
-
@pjft I really hope es-kids becomes offical, cause I like to use it on my arcade so my brother doesn't screw up everything majorly

In fact 4.3 is basically around the corner. I have been rebuilding binaries etc recently to prepare for it.
FYI, lr-picodrive is currently broken on RPI3 with the latest source. I didn't file a bug due to it being an upstream issue (and I'm still trying to see if it can be fixed), but I'm letting you know here in case you want a working core to be distributed in the 4.3 image. The issue is due to the latest commit in the cpu/cyclone submodule (specifically: 66dda842eae01f47f5389b931ec9567fb0bbb6a1).

@buzz I will have to try reconfiguring my controllers then. When I last updated three weeks ago the shoulder buttons stopped working in the menu, but remained functional in all of the systems/games.
-
I don't know if there's a way to prevent an image from slide or fade, but if there isn't, it would be awesome feature to have. I had success messing with zIndex to lock a layer on Fade mode, but the image still slide when the transition is selected.

Controller settings for each emulator if possible. Along with a save state so you can switch between controllers.
So I mostly use 8bitdo and Wii U controllers.
When you select the game it should ask what controller you would like to play with. Maybe make this an On/off option for I'm sure some might not want this feature or even care about it. -
@AkumaMax That is too ambitious. You will need to petition RetroArch for that
-
It would also be cool to be able to enable an "are you sure?" message prompt when launching a game that requires a keyboard and/or mouse. MS-DOS, ports, and Scummvm games sometimes are accidentally selected when just a controller is available, which then leaves with no choice but to shut down and restart to get back to the menu. Which is even harder if someone doesn't have a shut down switch which could lead to SD card corruption. Just a small addition I would think is cool.
I say small. I don't know a lick about coding, so I could be sorely wrong.

@cjax08 you can set dosbox to have a two button exit on your controller.
-
@Cjax08 You can actually edit your setup to do this. its a bit of a hack.

@akumamax if you use joystick selection in the retropie menu you can set a specific controller to a specific system. If you dont have joystick selection go into runcommand in the retropie menu and enable it. Then reboot your pi. Now you will see joystick selection as an option.
