This is the MAME Random Of the Week #52 - 1st Anniversary Edition

Thanks to everyone who voted for their favorite games from the past year.

      The top five were

      Joust

      Phoenix

      DonPachi

      Pang

      New Rally X

Click here to vote! Which game do you choose for MAME ROW #52?

The result of the poll is posted on Wednesday, so we have Monday and Tuesday for experimentation.

      What is the MAME ROW?

MAME ROW stands for MAME Random Of the Week. We randomly select an arcade game from the 0.78 MAME Reference Set to play on the week. The idea is to play games we've never played before, interact with other forum members, post hi-scores, share game strategies, fun facts, and (the most important) HAVE FUN!

      Notes:

      1. We usually post hi-scores screenshots after playing with only one credit. If you used more than one credit, please mention it on your post.

      2. There's no need to use RetroPie to join the MAME ROW! You can play it on any platform you want.

Every Monday we create a topic at the "General Discussion and Gaming > MAME Random Of the Week" forum section with the 3 random games to be voted. And on Wednesday we check the result.

These "rules" are constantly being improved!

@obsidianspider pretty hard decision! All of them are very fun to play! But I'm sticky with Pang (almost changed my mind to New Rally X, though :) ).

so hard! i love donpachi but i'm not sure i'll beat my previous score. so, i think i'll go with pang as i had a lot of fun trying to get the technique of that game (which i'm sure i've forgotten now...)

@obsidianspider At first - thank you very much for your constant efforts in organzing the MAME ROW and also thank you @meleu for initiating the first rounds.

I would stick to Phoenix. That was one of these classic games (gems) I wouldn't know if the MAME ROW never get started. There are really some cool classics in here...
PANG! and Joust are also a good and enjoyfull games. As a (small) contribution to this I created also the MAME 1th Anniversary-thread ;) So we hopefully never forget the previous winners ;)

I struggled here, Pang is one I've never played and there must be a knack to it (which I don't have). I'll be coming back to it though, it has an old school vibe being different to anything else I've played.

Donpachi made me rage quit. This could well be considered a good sign(😳)

Phoenix must also take a bit of getting used to, too many unexpected moves, but I'm quite sure I'm missing a trick (or the use of a button)

New Rally X- quite fun, not the sort of thing I'd pick up and get stuck into though given the other offerings.

Which brings me to Joust. Tick for Old School, tick for playability (esp two-up), tick for being addictive (which I'm sure, given some talent, the others could well be too!)
But mostly, a big tick for being the one my kids want to thrash me at. My tastes may have been dulled over the years but they're coming at it with fresh eyes, so when they'd rather play that than Battlefront or some other latest offering it speaks volumes to me. Plus it has Ernest Cline's blessing, which goes some way for them!! It's one I never played as a kid, yet I'm loving it still.

              Joust!!

Can't wait to see what next years choices will be- having an anniversary tournament has really got the family excited, and that's what it's all about in my book;)
Good show all round folks, please don't let it stop!

I picked Phoenix, mainly cause I've accepted the fact that it will follow me where ever I go for the rest of my life

Hmm that was a hard one, but I had to go with Joust over DonPachi. DonPachi is my jam, but not as much as DoDonPachi is my greater jam.

Would someone else vote for Phoenix please?
Then we would compete on three games the same time ;)

                          Had to go with Joust.
It's my favourite arcade game since I got into this whole MAME thing, and I'm about to start reading Ready Player One (yeah, I'm slow, I know...)
