MAME Joy Pad Up key just stopped working

We where playing 1943 and giving it stick on a usb controller when player ones up key stopped working, player twos still worked, upon exiting and rebooting , both now dont work in mame, but work fine in everything else on the system.

I tried deleting the retroarch config in the mame folder, i remapped the joypad, and still no up key working.

joystick test fine, usb slots where switched.

Just no up key working in MAME.

USB Devices connected: USB Keyboard 2x buffalo usb 8 button controllers

How to replicate the problem: unknown , since no idea how or why it happend in the first place

I did try that and its not working. in the retroarch menu when in Mame the up keyboard button and the joypad buttons do not work. if I choose to load another config like another retroarch.cfg or picto.cfg or mame2003.cfg for instance the up buttons work in the menu in retroarch then, but I can not get back into the game thats open, upon quitting and going back into the mame game, the up buttons stop working again
