Transfer of Roms from USB stick now takes too long.

Okay so i decided to add some roms today since I have not in awhil. Well when i did i noticed it was taking unusually long. I was installing about four or five roms that were not cd roms but cartridge roms. It took about 10 mins to finish.

I was puzzled so I decided to format my usb and try this again. This time with a 4mb GBA rom. It took nearly four minutes for the usb to stop flickering. I even used a different usb port.

I don't know whats going on. Some help or diagnosis would be appreciated. Would like to know if others are experiencing this too.

I just tried using a new USB stick and same thing. Takes way too long to put one rom on. The rom was Gunstar Heroes for the Megadrive.

Okay I think I may have figured it out. I decided to put the USB back in, this time with no new roms. Well sure enough it started to blink rapidly. You now when you first set up a USB stick for retropie for the first time, it will copy all of the folders from the pi to the USB stick. Well I think what's happening is every time I try to add a new rom or put in the stick, it will automatically begin to setup the stick like it would for the first time.

I think this maybe a coding error or bug since I have not changed anything for transferring roms to my pi since I got it. It well become a hassle to put roms on the pi when its treating the USB stick like its setting it up for the first time every time. I would like a moderator or a person of the retropie project to look into this please. Since I believe I'am not the only one having issues.

Which likely means you did not update it. There have been updates to the usbromservice recently. Mostly to fix some bios transfer issues. It can be wonky if you're transferring huge files too. Try updating first. There are other options than usb which are more reliable described on the docs.

@herb_fargus I did do an update tonight, for all of the packages. As well as a few days ago. I will update USB rom service again and see if my problem goes I will get back soon.

It didn't work after I updated the rom service and put in a USB that once again had no new roms, I even deleted the one on the stick. It still does it. I have not used samba share before and I much prefer the usb stick option honestly.

I tried using SCP but having some issues. If I changed my password and username for the pi thats what I type in for SCP right?
Also would really like for someone else to confirm issues with usb as well. I beginning to thing that retropie 4.3 may be a cause as well.

Managed to figure out samba share for retropie. Which I admit is more easier. But still would like others input for the usb transfer of roms too.

@redbatman after you update usb rom service, you need to disable it then immediately re enable it.

As far as scp did you go into raspi config and enable ssh?

@dankcushions Uh this is weird cause I didn't bump this post at all. I was at work at the time.

@redbatman right, maybe a ghost did those two bumps on your account above? that seems the most likely explanation.
