Hey forum! So I recently tried to flash retropie 4.3 from scratch to a 32 GB microSD card. In terms of gaming and whatnot, everything looks fine but the keys to save states, load states, back out of the game etc do NOT work at all. When I try to go to the directory to check the config (/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads) but it says i do not have permission to access the directory. I also cannot see that directory at all when i try to SSH into the device. Is this a bug with 4.3? Or is it intentionally locked down? I fired up recalbox as a test just to see if it was something with the Pi or the microSD card itself but the hot keys work fine. Also...I reflashed the image twice and got the same results with different controllers.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

@contoso what did you set as your 'hotkey' during the initial controller configuration? https://retropie.org.uk/docs/First-Installation/#configure-controllers
it's the last one on the list.

@dankcushions thank you for the reply. I apologize for the long delay in response. I tried setting the PS button in the middle as the hot key. I ended up reverting back to a previous version of RetroPie in the meantime. Should it be another key? Would that cause me to not have access to the retroarch joypads directory?

@contoso normally we suggest using select as hotkey, but you could use the PS button. it would just mean all your hotkey actions would be using that button. for example, save state would be PS button + R1, load state PS button + L1, and so on.

Would that cause me to not have access to the retroarch joypads directory?

how are you trying to access it? via command line or?
