Game controller for NES games
-
I have a wired Xbox 360 controller that I am using. I noticed that when I play any NES games that it doesn't seem to want to work on the player selection screen. However, when I play the game itself it works fine. Has anyone come across this issue before?

What exactly do you mean by "player selection screen"?

@meleu I believe @kasimar1 is referring to using the select button on the NES controller to make selections in game menus but, yeah, an example would have been nice.
I've added fixes at the wiki: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Nintendo-Entertainment-System#the-nes-select-button

My apologies for not being more clear on my question. When I load the game Super Mario Bros 3 for the NES the initial screen allows you to select the # of players. The default is 1. When I attempt to move up or down on the D-pad of my X-Box 360 controller nothing happens. I don’t recall how you do the # of player selection using a NES controller. It sounds like I have a mapping issue. I will read the section about configuring the NES select button.

@kasimar1 Player selection is done with the
Select
button, not with D-Pad. It's not a mapping problem, just the wrong button.
