@dd-indeed absolutely they do, systems and code were much simpler back then.

Someone else should try In Cold Blood. No matter what I try or what image I use, fps counters shows 60 fps all the time, but the game runs something like 20 fps.

which region? USA runs fine for me, you should try a different rom and verify the dump against the redump.org database.

                  emu: lr-pcsx-rearmed
                  BIOS: SCPH1001.BIN

Mine is the USA version and I dumped it straight from the disc. But then again, I tried this a long time ago, so it might have changed. I just stumbled into this thread today, so I tried to be helpful and I posted my comment.

My PS1 Experience so far on retropie 4.3 with raspberry pi 2

Bios: Filename is called "PSX - SCPH1001.bin" - it is in the Bios folder (is this the right bios and right file location?)

                        Games I've had issues with:
Metal Gear Solid - starts to load and I just get a black screen
Need for Speed III Hot Pursuit - Moves slow and becomes unplayable

                        Games that work:
                        Frogger
                        Mortal Kombat 4
                        Castlevania Symphony of the Night
                        Tekken 3
                        Madden 2000
                        Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

You should get newer bios as well, some games don't tend to work with that original bios from the very first Playstation version. :)

@dd-indeed I'll do that. Renaming the bios file correctly did resolve my Need for Speed and Metal Gear issues but cannot get Tomb Raider II to work. These were the games I bought and ripped myself and can play in a pc emulator. I'll try getting an updated bios

If you can get the PSOne bios (SCPH101.BIN, one zero missing), it is the latest one. Allthou, you also could try something like 55xx, 7xxx and 900x.

@dd-indeed got it. Tomb Raider II is the only one that wont work. Works on my pc but once you select Laras house or start new game is does nothing

But very happy about the rest of the games

@mtascavage It would have been ridiculous if Tomb raider 2 didn't work on the first generation ps1 system. The bios is not the problem, your ripped game probably is. You can find several tomb raider 2 iso's online, I am sure one of them will work.

Crash Team Racing (CTR) for me runs ok, but sometimes the other racers go invisible, and all you can see is the boost from their exhaust. I am on latest and greatest, not overclocked.

This is something that I'm keen to know as well. Could be a problem with the emulation itself, since no matter what sort of settings you have (even with stock settings), the game freezes up the entire system, if you retry mission. Hard boot is needed after that everytime, you can't even exit the emulation at all.
