Neo Geo won't run certain roms
-
I'm having trouble getting 4 games working for Neo Geo (Pulstar, Soccer Brawl, Street Hoop, and Super Dodge Ball) on my Raspberry Pi 3. I have about 20 other Neo Geo games working perfect. I already have the bios file and I have tried about 12 different rom sites trying to find a rom that will work. When I try starting one of these games, I get kicked back to the Neo Geo game list menu. I don't want anyone to share roms; I just want to know if anyone else is having a similar issue, even if it is for another emulator, or if these four games are known to not run on Retropie. Thanks for your help in advance!

@byaaah31 you need to use the right romset for the emulator you're using. downloading roms from random websites will not work. https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Arcade

Thanks for the help. All I had to do was change the emulator from lr-fbalpha to pifba for those 4 roms and now they work. I could have sworn that I already tried that, but sometimes you go crazy trying to fix something that you overlook the simple stuff. Thanks again!

Is that irony ? You didn't follow the instructions in the topic he linked at all. Well, i guess it is ok if you don't care about shaders, savestates, rewind, netplay, autoconfig, dipswitches, better sound, ...

@byaaah31 there are two libretro fba emulators. You should try the other one and see if it works.

I think lr-fbalpha2012's neogeo romset is the same as lr-fbalpha, except perhaps on some homebrew/hacks

@barbudreadmon It wasn't irony. I had the right roms, just the wrong emulator. He linked instructions that pretty much just say that certain roms are only compatible with certain emulators. I didn't use a romset, but I have all 24 Neo Geo games that I want running perfectly. I didn't use his advice directly, but his advice led me to try the roms with different emulators which is what solved my problem.

@byaaah31 To be fair, your problem is not "solved". You happened to get them working by trial and error.
If you know what ROM set your games are from then you can add them as you please and be confident they should work.
Obviously it's up to you how you deal with these things but don't be surprised if the next ROM you add doesn't work on any of the included emulators. -
@byaaah31 all of the original roms work in the libretro emulators. I didnt have to use pifba for any of them.

@byaaah31 The linked topic recommend using the right roms for the emulator you will be using, not the reverse. To find the right rom on google, no need to download from 12 websites, you just need to type the name of the emulator + its version, one of the first links contains all the roms you'll need (the first one in my case). But again, if you are okay without shaders, savestates, rewind, netplay, autoconfig, dipswitches, better sound, ... , using pifba is fine.
