Re: Fresh install retropie 4.2 cannot ssh or sftp

I used the raspi-config tool to enable SSH and rebooting my raspberry pi. But following the directions to connect to it via its IP, port 22, "pi" for user, and "raspberry" for password I am still unable to connect to it.

I AM able to connect to it via windows 10 but that only gives me access to the bios, roms, configs, and splashscreens folder. I want to access the game images and info to manually update some of the scraping data for various games.

I get the following error from FileZilla where <IP-removed> is the IP of my pie.

    Status: Connecting to <IP-removed>...
    Response: fzSftp started, protocol_version=8
    Command: open "pi@<IP-removed>" 22
Error: Network error: Software caused connection abort
Error: Could not connect to server

I get a similar but less verbose error when using WinSCP

All I can think of is either the SSH config got screwed up somehow or there is a firewall issue.

I'm guessing PuTTY does the same thing if you try to SSH to the RPi?

Edit: Actually, you could try the advice from the end of this recent thread:

      https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/16037/ssh-only-works-as-a-guest-solved/39

@mitu said in SSH Only works as a guest [SOLVED]:

      Try this:

      sudo apt-get -y purge openssh-server
      sudo apt-get -y install openssh-server

Then try enabling SSH again and/or rebooting.

          Find you pi ip .

Connect to same router aka network at home.

Open a file explorer ex my documents.

          In address bar type \RETROPIE

          Hit enter

This will take you to all the folders to add your tons without having to sshp or whatever.

            It's \ \ RETROPIE

Also after re reading post try putty.
