Pi Model or other hardware: Pi3
    Power Supply used: Official Raspberry
    RetroPie Version Used : 4.3
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: zero delay usb encoder
Controller used: dragon rise Arcade Stick
    Error messages received: n/a
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant): n/a
Hi everybody. I got dragon's lair 1 and 2 set up on Daphne. I have run into a problem that appears in a few posts. I can't configure the joystick. I could configure the buttons easily . The game is playable but left is down and right is up and vice versa . If I could rotate the joysticks slightly to the right it would work normally but I can't. I tried turning the joystick 5 pin cable the other way but the joystick would not work. I read that the usb encoder mode switch can change from dpad to analogue and this can solve it . But has anybody done this and have a guide how as I could buy more buttons . Its driving me mad as I actually am enjoying dragon's lair 2 which is hard enough without the controls being back to front .Thanks

@grant2258 do u mean configure the default retroarch controls back to front for the purpose of playing just dragon's lair. So when I configure the joystick I put left as down and down as left . Right as up etc. That is worth a try I suppose .

@beamquaker Daphne is not a RetroArch / libretro emulator so it would have no effect.
Have you tried editing /opt/retropie/configs/daphne/dapinput.ini ? See this page from the wiki https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Daphne

@jonnykesh yes the buttons are easy enough . On the joystick direction bit I tried changing the numbers but nothing worked I tried jtest in the command line trying to find a clue bit I got something like 3327 - 3327 + on up and down and left and right. I read Daphne basically uses the joystick as it sees it and u can't change it. If I set up a button on mode on my usb encoder I could supposedly set up my stick to dpad press the mode button and it would switch between analogue and dpad . I read that this might solve the problem but I'm curious if anyone has tried this and been successful.

                to dp

Well that will fix your problem if its looking for a dpad because the joystick is on analog by default. I have tested the mode button and it does work properly changed from ana to dpad

I will have to buy some new buttons and try this out . I have 4 holes in the back of my arcade that could be used for mode and something else . Thank you

well you can test it just plug a spare cable in and touch the wires together then let go like pressing a button it will switch the mode

@grant2258 that's a great idea. I'll try it tomorrow as the kids are back from school . I have 4 spare cables so all I need now is time. If it doesn't work then it would be pointless buying anymore buttons.

Not sure if you know, but this caused some problems for me when getting started. But Daphne reserves "0" for unused commands, so when you start mapping buttons start at 1. Button 0 would be 1, and so on... maybe this threw things off a bit?

@grant2258 That would be for EmulationStation, not applicable to Daphne configs, as far as I know.

@chuckyp thanks I knew about the buttons. Is there a way to map my joystick in the Daphne ini . I tried the mode switch and it worked but never fixed the directional issue .

the buttons for up and down are for the analog axis hopefully thatll work if not just add one to each button like mr beamquaker said for the directions buttons. accedently edit this post instead of replying

@beamquaker Yes, I would make a backup of your Daphni.ini and play around. JSTest should have given you the button numbers. Up/Down would be one of (-3327 and +3327) again, you may need to add +1 to those values to make up for the programming of Daphne not using "Zero" as an entry. But there should be a different number for your left and right, although I don't know about your specific situation.

If pressing left goes up and and pressing up goes right, just swap the values to get the direction you need.

I had that with the exact same controller and ended up noticing that I had plugged in the up/down/left/right to the wrong joystick switches.

I'd try switching the connectors around to the expected orientation. That worked for me.

@pjft I can't change it I think. It's in a 5 pin ribbon type connection . I tried to change that back to front but never worked.
