Classic arcade racing games steering controls not saving - Chase HQ, Super Hang-on, Super Monaco GP
-
Hi Guys, I have the following racing games that the steering controls do not save on the retropie.
FBA - Super Hang-On, Super Monaco GP, Galaxy Force 2
MAME 2003 Libretro - Chase HQ and Turbo Outrun
When I first launch these games on their emulators the steering controls do not work, the car only goes strainght ahead until it crashes. If I hit SELECT + X ( in game) on the game pad I can fix this going to:
settings/input/input user 1 binds
I Scroll down until I see the following:
USER 1 STEERING: (this is where you input your left analogue or D-pad, right input)
USER 1 STEERING: ((this is where you input your left analogue or D-pad, left input)I do this and the game, anyone of the above mentioned, becomes playable now it has the analogue or the D-pad working.
The problem is that each time I exit the games the left and right inputs for the analogue and D-pad disappear. Is there anyway of saving these inputs for these games?
My setup:
Raspberry pi 3b, retropie 4.3 -
@robotechvfx After configuring the controllers to your liking in RGUI, use the 'Save Game Remap' menu to save it permanently (see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/#core-input-remapping).
-
@mitu I don't want to intrude, but I'm under the impression that that's a slightly different thing - this seems to refer to the input menu instead of the controls one.
@Robotechvfx if what @mitu suggests doesn't work, you may try to see if there's one such save option in the inputs menu, but if not you may end up having to create rom-specific configuration files for those. You'll need to set RetroArch in the configuration menu to load core and game specific option files (you may need to edit this on the actual RetroArch configuration file) and then create separate ones for those specific games.
-
Thanks @mitu I have already tried that. it doesn't work either.
The save game remap is on:SELECT + X ( in game) / Quick menu / Controls
Doesn't have the input for the steering. I had to:settings/input/input user 1 binds
USER 1 STEERING: (this is where you input your left analogue or D-pad, right input)
USER 1 STEERING: ((this is where you input your left analogue or D-pad, left input)I did manage to save the inputs from:
On Quick menu Options/create game file and then I went to Controls/save game remap file, I think.
It did work but the start+select function used for exiting the game stopped working.@pjft is right I think I'll need to create a specific configuration file for the game. Is there any tutorial for setting this up?
-
@robotechvfx so, there's no reason why start+select would have stopped working, but that means you have a config file stored for the game. You can use that one and copy it for the other games - provided you fix select + start.
I think they're stored in /opt/RetroPie/config/arcade or somewhere in the whereabouts, all lower case. See if you find something with the name of the game around there and send over the content via pastebin and we'll work with you.

I saved all my arcade cab controls through retroarch and they all remain. I haven't set up any driving games as I thought they'd only work with analogue inputs so I will try this out later.
I don't want to give bad advise so this is a question to the experts... but would savecore remap work? Each time my games load it says it loads my core remap. It seems to work for games which I've never loaded before too. I think I had to temporarily switch save on exit on aswell? Beware trying any of this though as if you get it wrong it will much your controls up and it becomes very hard to use the interface so back up your SD!! It's really easy to fudge this up with your A+B buttons.
I managed to set up my iPac 2 both player 1 &2 controls like this and everything works great
I'd love to get some classic driving games going on my Cab so will have a look tonight.

@mattyl42 you may have accidently changed one of your start and select buttons (or hot key) and saved it fudged up.
Try reconfiguring the controler in Emulation station like when you first load it up. Vids on you tube. Done all this myself too :)
