[SOLVED] Berzerk: sound in mame2003-plus, but not in mame2003

Are you sure they make use of the same sample file? It's really not a good idea to symlink these between each other, due to certain samples being unique to lr-mame2003-plus.
-
@mediamogul Well, I don't know, but I had the samples long before I even knew that mame2013-plus exists, and they ought to be for Mame 0.78. So I guess, if both emulators use different sample files, mine should be the ones for mame2003, and mame2013-plus shouldn't have sound, not the other way around. But that also is just a wild guess.
The samples themselves are from 1996 according to their timestamps inside of the zip file, but it's the same with Twisty's samples from 1999.
The symlink is just for now that I don't have any different samples for both emulators. I'll change that as soon as I have some.
Can you or anyone confirm that Berzerk doesn't play samples in mame2013, or that it does but mame2013-plus doesn't (pointing to different sample sets), or that both should have sound with the same set?
I'm fine with using mame2013-plus for the game, this thread is mainly for reporting the issue, if it's an issue and not just a problem on my system.
edit: Oh, and yes, both emulators have samples enabled in their core config.

@grant2258 As I said, it's only temporary as long as I don't have different sample sets. Besides, Berzerk isn't mentioned in mame2003-plus' changelog, so it shouldn't require different samples than mame2003, or why would it? I'm asking in all due respect in the hope to learn something. :)

@grant2258 I am not sure if I understand you correctly, but the two samples sets for Berzerk that I have only work in mame2003-plus, not in mame2003.
-
im asking if any samples are working on mame2003 or if its just a one game issue the only samples i have is the final fight ost for mame2003+
-
@grant2258 Ah, ok. I'll look into it and report the results.

I am using the same MAME 0.78 sample set for Bezerk in both Mame2003 and Mame2003plus and they both have working sound.
Though a symlink should work, maybe that could be the problem.
Copying the sample set for bezerk into a real folder for mame2003plus would at least eliminate that as a possibility. -

mame2003plus is fine. Mame2003 binary is fine. mame2003 from source had issues its fixed pending a pull request being accepted for it.

@grant2258 Yes, I just wanted to report that after some testing yesterday. You were faster than me. ;) I can confirm that most of my samples work in mame2003 binary and mame2003-plus, but not in mame2003 from source; with few exceptions like Blockade that works in all of them.
Since there already is a pull request for this, I consider this topic as solved. Thanks for the help! (edit: as well as @markwkidd for the fix and @Headrush69 for testing.)
