B+ image issue

@retropiepghguy sounds like you updated retropie without updating the underlying OS. 4.3 was built on raspian Jesse and 4.4 is built on stretch. Something tells me you are still on Jesse. The pi3 b+ is not compatible with raspian Jesse.

@mitu Thanks for the response. I've done so much AM customization over the years, I wouldn't even know where to start to rebuild this. It's not just the roms and artwork. Its all the wheels, controller support, etc, etc. now what I mean?

Sure, but shouldn't that be part of the AM config folder or in the theme you created ? Why don't you copy that over to the new image and test it.

@quicksilver Thanks. Makes perfect sense. Is there a way to do that? Thanks again!

@mitu It's just not possible. I used the base Floob image years ago and have made tons and tons of customization. I think if I can figure out how to make the base OS 4.4 kosher, I will be fine. No need to go through all of that and then have all that testing. I have 30 consoles running in my image.

I'm trying this
How to get Raspbian Stretch
As this is a major version upgrade, we recommend using a clean image; these are available from the Downloads page on our site as usual.Upgrading an existing Jessie image is possible, but is not guaranteed to work in every circumstance. If you wish to try upgrading a Jessie image to Stretch, we strongly recommend taking a backup first – we can accept no responsibility for loss of data from a failed update.
To upgrade, first modify the files /etc/apt/sources.list and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/raspi.list. In both files, change every occurrence of the word ‘jessie’ to ‘stretch’. (Both files will require sudo to edit.)
Then open a terminal window and execute
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade -
@retropiepghguy Upgrading Raspbian is not really supported. Someone documented the necessary steps in this topic - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/16145/retropie-upgrading-raspbian-jessie-to-stretch, but make backups before. My recommendation is to start with a clean image and port over your configurations and ROMs.

@mitu thank you. I may try that as well

@mitu That procedure worked fine. underlying OS has been upgraded as well as the Retropie code. No need to re-install anything. I'm currently in deep testing of the image. Thanks so much.
