A problem with the NES Classic theme with a CRT.
-
Hello fellow retronauts! I just discovered that the excellent, EXCELLENT NES Classic theme supports 4:3 aspect ratio. I managed to correctly edit the XML file so that the theme is displayed in 640x480 but there's problem. The background and the foreground objects dont quite fit together!
The only thing i edited in the XML file is the line that says 1920x1080, which i changed to 640x480. Setting the resolution to 320x240 had the same problem.
My Pi is outputting 640x480 in emulationstation and 320x240 in-game through the onboard 3.5mm jack.
An image describing the problem i'm facing.Pi Model or other hardware: Pi3 b
Power Supply used: The official power supply.
RetroPie Version Used: 4.1
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPe site.
USB Devices connected: a controller
Controller used: a chinese USB SNES controller
Emulator used: Emulationstation
Also, my TV is a PAL/50hz CRT, if that's relevant.
Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

@muusi I am not near my pi yet, but if I remember correctly some themes have multiple entries where one contains something like a
4_3
in the theme install list flagging it as a crt compatible theme. I am not sure if that particular theme has that option though, I'd have to check in a bit.Edit:
I thought about it after re-reading and if a pre-existing 4:3 theme doesn't exist and you change the theme aspect ratio manually, I believe you have to resize the images in order for everything to mesh. I could be wrong though.

Thanks for the reply!
As far as i'm aware of, there's no separate NES Classic theme meant for a CRT and the one i'm using should be 4:3 compatible but clearly something's wrong.

@muusi Have you checked the instruction of the theme to change resolution and aspect ratio ? I think OOB it's 19:6 and you need to modify the theme to be 4:3 - https://github.com/ruckage/es-theme-nes-mini/blob/master/%23%23 RESOLUTION AND LAYOUTS GUIDE %23%23.txt .

@mitu Yes i edited the XML file. The default was 1920x1080 and i changed it to 640x480, which of course is 4:3.
