SNES mini theme

@ruckage Just wanted to say "wow". I know I'm late to the party, but this is a fantastic theme. I love it.

@sp i think the metadata looks great in my opinion, makes it unique

I agree with @nestor1924 . Option 1 with metadata look better to me.
Thanks, I obviously agree myself but did have a feeling some people wouldn't like it as it deviates from the look of the NES / Snes classic menu. As there is currently no way to fully emulate the way that menu works anyway I see no harm in making some additions and think it's good to differentiate it from the original Snes classic menus. Personally I really like to see the metadata for games.
Having said that since one of the main aims of this theme is to offer as many customisation options as possible I will probably add an option to have that view without metadata so @Stuart2773 and @SP will have the look they want.

thanks, for some reason i really hate metadata on all themes.
Hows the build going, any ideas on when a next release will be?
also, will the new version of the theme work straight out of the box or will we need to install that ES dev thingy in the experimental packages?cheers
Stuart.

The grid theme support is only available in the ES development branch, so you either install that or wait for the official release of the new ES version.

Far and away my favorite theme! I've just moved emulationstation to my PC, and I'm really, really missing it. Just wanted to say I'm looking forward to the updated version with more systems supported, and to thank you for doing such a fantastic job with it!

What keeps you from installing the theme on Windows ? It should work there also.

It does work, but the main reason I moved to Windows was to add systems that my RetroPie wouldn't be able to run, such as the Saturn, Wii, and PS2. The SNES Mini theme doesn't have support for those systems yet, but @ruckage has said he's thinking of adding them.

Hi Ruckage,
I work currently on a EmulationStation fork that removes some features like VLC support and works on Windows and Linux. Currently I recommended the users to download your theme directly on your GitHub website for the look of the software.
But in France, the use of logos is not possible for this type of use, can only be used for information purposes. So I decided to create a new theme without the logos of the compagnies.
I see that about your icons :
" This theme is being actively developed, a great deal of work has been put into the theme and art so please do not use the graphics I have created in other projects.
You are free to modify the theme for your personal use only - please do not share modified versions of this theme. "Therefore, I would like to ask you if it is possible for you to grant me permission to use the icons of your theme only (so I'm only talking about icons of different media that you have made : i put a example in the post ) on a new theme that I want to create. If you accept my request, what are the indications that you would like me to indicate in a future "README" and "LICENSE" file?
Example of one of your icons in your theme :
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my post and for your answer, and sorry in advance if I made English mistakes in my text.
Best regards,
Jackobo The Chocobo -
Terribly sorry for bothering you, but any updates on the update?
-
@edmaul69 Could you post the updated icons you made? Thanks.

@ruckage Hey. How is going your tests on the grid view layout ? You showed us really nice mockup, have you succefully recreated them with the grid view theming syntax ?

Sorry, we've had unusually good weather here in the UK so I've been making the most of it while I can so haven't had much time to work on this. However the basics are already working so I will probably have a version to test soon.

This looks glorious. If you think it still needs work then please don't stop. So far it looks great. We are lucky to be blessed with such talent. A+ 10/10

@ruckage your theme is just top-notch. It was a very smart idea to add the extra diversity of Europe [PAL] and USA [NTSC] customisation. Have you considered adding the MegaCD logo over using SegaCD (which is the American market). I would love to help and could have a go myself. I would also like know how you did those background images for the system, is that an action done in photoshop?
As I think your theme is so good it would be great to somewhat 'future-proof' it's style (for possible more powerful Raspberry Pis) with icons and backgrounds for systems such as 3DO or SEGA Saturn.
-
@edmaul69 i would really love to incorporate your icons into my extended custom theme, especially the tg16 cd one, kinda need that one... and a proper 32x

What's that supposed to mean? A proper 32x is already part of the theme.........

Thanks a lot for your theme Ruckage, since I have just purchased the snes case by Retroflag, and I also have 8bitdo snes pad, with your theme I can say I have a fully mini snes style raspberry.
Just one suggestion : I also use the raspberry for viewing videos and torrenting. Have you considered making a kodi/osmc theme with the snes/nes mini style? Since most of the official themes have a modern style, I think people that have Nintendo cases (and, in general, people that prefer retro themes) would appreciate it a lot.
Thanks again for the theme!

This theme is incredible. I have been using it for almost a year now. Thanks for the hard work @ruckage . I tried changing the colors of a few of the systems ( I owned a blue Nintendo DS, a clear purple Game Boy Color, and a white Game Boy Advance as a kid), but the theme won't update. I changed the images in the icons and icons_usa folders to my desired colors in Paint, but the old colors still appear. Any idea on what else I would have to update to make the color change? I'm not sure what I am missing.

Sorry for the late reply. Glad you like the theme.
Do you mean an actual skin for Kodi itself? It's not something Ive considered as I don't use the pi as a media player myself but I'll maybe look into it to see what's involved.@byaaah31 said in SNES mini theme:

I'm glad you're enjoying the theme. I'm not sure what the problem could be as if you've replaced the images they should just show up. If you can upload your edited theme somewhere for me to download I'll take a look and see what the problem is. Off the top of my head have you restarted ES after making the changes? Were the new image files saved with exactly the same filename and in the same format?
Regarding TG16/PCengine icons which you mentioned before editing your post I'll make some changes to the theme so that TG16 shows if you set the theme to USA and PC engine will show up otherwise - the same as it currently does for Genesis/Megadrive.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
