looks over list of teams
No U.S.A
Well, there goes my incentive to watch

Used to enjoy Anirog 5-a-side on the C64 as it had erm, a small fight thing in it.
That and Match Day 2 with its amazing 'Diamond Deflection System'
Naturally progressing to Kick Off 2 and Sensi, always preferred Kick Off 2, and amazed that it has been kinda updated, able to turn off the 'Halfway Hoof' and other options these days.

Some great mentions here. Just started a new ES collection. Especially like the Football Champ - I love such non-serious ones, since I'm not a good player anyway. ISSD is the king of course, but there's so many buttons and combos, it's like a flight sim :D
Also got to check the 5-A-side, sounds fun. Actually, just played some obscure C64 footy, where you basically play like we did as kids: on a street, with ball getting trapped in backyards and between cars...but forgot the name. -
@youxia I remember playing Fever Pitch Soccer on the SNES too. It was more action oriented with the ball catching fire if I remember it correctly. Its so long time ago. But watching it in YouTube, its does look like regular football.
Ahh, there was a really obscurre soccer game I never got to play. It is Mega Man Soccer. Yes you read it right. :D
And while searching the web, I found a game I never heard of: Dolucky no A.League Soccer -
Yasss for Mega Man. I read about it today and am about to try it out.
Also recommend Soccer Brawl (NeoGeo). It's a futuristic one, about as good as a NeoGeo game can get. And that's quite a praise :)

There was so many I played on the C64, Microprose Soccer was the 'Daddy' that spawned the like of Kick Off 2 and Sensi, adding 'Banana shots' to the game.
Had International Soccer on a C64 cart, sure it was the one where I could chip the ball onto a players head, then walk up the picth heading it.
Oooh and Footballer of The Year, a very simple one, but lost hours to that.
Would guess my progression would of been something like
C64 International Soccer, Match Day, World Cup Carnival, Match Day 2, Microprose, some budget 5-a-side games.
Then to the Amiga with the likes of Kick Off 2, SWOS, Striker, for some reason, I never liked the consol versions.

@madrikxiv Can't remember if it was Match Day or Match Day 2 on the ZX Spectrum, but on one of them my tactic was always to try to get 1 goal up, then just bounce the ball on top of the head of one player for the remaining time - as there was no way for the opposition to get the ball back!
Looking at YouTube clips of MatchDay and MatchDay 2, I'm pretty sure this was in the original one.
No-one's mentioned this classic yet. The first football video game I ever played!

Super Sidekicks 3

@youxia can you decently play Inazuma Eleven with a pad only? I have it on my DS but it's been a long time so I can't recall if there are any mandatory stylus sections...
Great games listed here. Loved Match Day, and it's still surprisingly enjoyable these days. ISSD and Super Sidekicks are classics as well as SWOS (for which there is a patch to update the squads to last year's ones). And Winning Eleven/ISS Pro Evolution on the PSX.
-
@pjft I haven't tried Inazuma on the Pi myself yet, forgot it might be a snag with the lack of touchscreen.

Found a soccer game within 3 in 1 sports arcade game by Capcom. The field on the soccer game is ridiculous small, which makes it very action oriented. The players have big head, typical Japanese anime style, but I am not sure if its easier to headshot this way. ;-)
Capcom Sports Club (Soccer part)
Rom: csclub
Emulator: Mame2003 -
Super sidekicks 1,2,3 and 4. ISS Deluxe, and also Fifa 98, famous for having pretty much all the gat damn teams in the world included. (Kotaku made a pretty good piece on it not long ago.)

@lilbud Congratz. They did not gave up. Teams like this should get the cup
-
@thelostsoul I guess it is good they won. I dunno, don't follow soccer all too often. (USA, USA, USA) My brother wanted England (as well as this site.) I never saw someone more pissed off at a game.
-
@lilbud What can I say? Germany lost badly. xD Anyway. Its still somewhat interesting.
-
Back to England winning the World Cup through Sensible Soccer.

fifa soccer on the mega cd is quite rare, but I remember my brother had it. The reason I mention this version and not just the megadrive version, was that due to it having a CD release, it had a load more audio including full cheering and chanting and full soundtrack, which other games did not have at the time.

Maybe a little late to the party but there is a Tecmo sensible soccer for the pce, it's almost the same as the nes game but with smoother gameplay and better graphics (in my opinion, some people love the nes graphics more).
