@mulder32 Yes, it's possible and probably how it's used by the majority of RetroPie's users.

@mitu Thanks, I saw that earlier but must have missed the part about hotkeys. I'll see what I can do.

I'm a total noob at this and have messed with this stuff for a while today with no luck. It seems like most controller configs there isn't going to be a need for a "coin" button. Only in the actual MAME controls can you change settings for the emulation software. And I have even less knowledge about hotkeys and getting them configured. Advice?

Credit is normally mapped on select. No need for hotkey.

@mulder32 Please fill in the info requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first, in particular which MAME emulator are you using.
Any libretro based emulator (lr-mame2003, lr-mame2010, lr-fbalpha) will be automatically configured based on the input configuration your performed in Emulationstation. The insert coin is bound to the Selectbutton.

Actually I just figured this out by loading a game in MAME and then pressing TAB which brought up options to change--so I have COIN and START figured out, but it looks like there is no option to ESC or quit and go back to the main retropie menu.

@mulder32 Which emulator are you using ? The Libretro based emulators have Hotkey + Start as exit combination (Select + Start) - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/#hotkeys

I am using mame4all. I will try using the other one you mention and see what happens.
