Switch to EmulationStation from another Distro

Because I'm currently stuck at home and can't enjoy the summer that much, I spend some time looking around for other Raspberry Pi Distro. And I found, or better rediscovered, another Retro Gaming Distro. I installed it in a VM to take a quick look at it, and noticed that it is using an EmulationStation version that has some features which have been asked here for quite some time. Like: Multi-Language Support, Themeable ES GUI (including a fully themeable helpsystem), A way to switch between theme layouts directly from the GUI (no need anymore to ask users to edit theme files), Background Music and I believe an On-Screen-Keyboard (not sure about that though).
It even has support for some kind of theme variables and I also noticed that it has some commits from @jdrassa (i don't know if he directly worked on that version or they got it some other way. I'm not experienced enough with all that github stuff.)

Obviously it can't be used right of the box on RetroPie, because it also has some extra menu entries that probably won't work. And it is probably missing some things, like I don't believe it has the current version of grid view.

I wonder if there was a way to either add those changes to the current version of EmulationStation or take the version and remove all unusable changes.

Just for clarity, I avoided to say the name, because I'm not sure if it would be appropriate.

Wait, is stuff like the scraper and main menus themeable?

Why not ? It's just another open source project (RecalBox) like RetroPie.

@lilbud yepp. here is a french video. the good stuff starts at 1:10. Although it doesn't show that you can switch gamelist view layouts as well. Probably because that will cause ES to auto restart.

I was scrolling through the commits of the recalbox emulation station build and I'm curious if the following commits can be merged (maybe just partially) into the retropie version. From what I've seen and understood, those should add support for themeable menus and add an extra menu to directly switch theme settings in the GUI.
