Hello and best thank's to all who submit helpful information and great knowledge on this fantastic forum. Now, I think I'm in a little trouble, and searching on various topic or docs with the object "4x2 layout mapping config" (and similar) didn't helped me expect the old link attached above: wasn't' a solution for me yet.
Briefly repeating the quest: 4x2 custom (home made) arcade stick correctly recognize and mapped on Retropie but in game and Retroarch config didn't find the option to combine more button: in my case (like the old topic) button 5-L2 to assign all 3 punch, and button 9-R2 assign all 3 kick (...fore the 360 pad they are the left and right trigger). I would like the 3 punch/kick button for the fighting Arcade and Fba game.
I'm using a Raspberry 3B wit the latest version of Retropie and Retroarch.
Sorry if I made an of topic or didn't exact respect the forum rules, tried to do my best to self document me.

@dan84imola fbalpha allows you to do this. it's in quick menu (hotkey + x) > options

@dankcushions ....Ooooooh man! I'm soooooo STUPID: was searching it only under quick menu=>controls and not (like you also previously suggested in the old topic) under quick menu=>options!!! Thank's a lot for your patience, and sorry for my ridiculous inconvenience :(
