      Hi,

I feel like I need a master's degree in order to understand clrmamepro.

Until now, I was using PiFBA (which uses the romset FB Alpha 0.2.96.71) and I rebuilt the romset using the DAT provided in the retropie wiki that removes clones, non-working, mahjong, quiz, adult, casino, and rhythm. (https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/FinalBurn-Alpha#pifba).

Now I'd like to change from PiFBA to lr-fbalpha, as it is much easier to configure and compatible with the general libretro setup, and it's the recommended fba emulator for the rpi3. That emulator uses romset v0.2.97.43 according to the wiki. I searched for a v0.2.97.43 DAT file and I tried to rebuilt the already filtered v0.2.96.71 romset into the lr-fbalpha version. However, clrmame complains about some files missing, and, when rebuilding, some rom files are almost empty. I suppose it needs a full romset and not just a selection in order to convert one version into the other.

What should I do if I want to just convert a selection of a romset from one version to the other? I couldn't find any lr-fbalpha compatible DATs with clones and non-working roms filtered out.

      Thanks in advance.

PS: some sources say that lr-fbalpha uses romset v0.2.97.43, others v0.2.97.42, FBA 0.2.97.40 or FBA 0.2.97.39. Are all these romsets compatible with each other?

        please see https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Validating,-Rebuilding,-and-Filtering-ROM-Collections

i think broadly you're going to have a bad time going from such an old romset to the current one. v0.2.96.71 is over 10 years old, now, so any game that has been dumped or added in the last 10 years, will not be in your generated romset, hence all the file errors.

        as per the link:

Note: the process of verifying and rebuilding ROMs is complex and requires a substantial investment of time and effort in order to master. If your goal is to have working ROMs, it is almost always simpler to download a full ROM collection that has already been verified to match the emulator you chose.

i would download .43 fresh, and then you can follow the rest of the guide to streamline the set if you like.

I see. Thanks for your answer. I think I'll stick with PiFBA until I'm patient enough to filter my own romset.
