Pi in a Burger King Gameboy Color Build - WIP
-
@obsidianspider hello, im just wondering how your project's going?
-
@tessietn I bought some screws and nuts that I think may work for closing the case, but I haven't done a lot of comparing to other small screws. I don't want some huge hardware hanging out the back if I can help it. That's about where I am at this point.
-
@obsidianspider i wanna follow your project so i bought a burger king gameboy toy & some rotary tools. but i haven't got enough parts yet & i'm about to leave for some training so i don't know when i have a bk gameboy for myself :(
-
@tessietn Thanks for following, but you certainly don't need to wait for me to finish to make one. I don't know what I'm doing, so it's really just a bunch of figuring it out as I go.
-
@obsidianspider haha don't be humble. I really don't know about electronics & stuff to make a handheld console. So i plan to follow you. I'm not sure if i can make a breadboard gamepad lol.

@backstander lol yeah honestly, im not sure what to do so im here to learn anything possible.

I know the electronics part, but may have troble

Hey, so how'd this project turn out? Anymore details, like did you include onboard sound? Expose HDMI and usb ports?
I've bought a fair bit of parts and quite a few of the bk toys already. Got an i2s audio card and lipo charging boards. Was having some trouble finding the right screen without breaking the bank and then I stumbled across this AliExpress kit.

It comes with everything in pretty much the exact form factor and includes a speaker, headphone jack, lipo battery w charging circuitry and a 2.2" LCD. The PCB width shows as 56mm and should fit in the BK GBC case after being gutted. It does have xy buttons in addition to the ab and I'm not sure how well they'll all line up but, for the money, if you factor in all the components, it looks like a better deal.
I'm gonna give it a try and see how it bodes.

@nater Unfortunately I got sidetracked and never finished, but in the time since I started I've learned a bunch and will be taking the project in a slightly different direction, using some cheaper parts that should yield a superior result.
-
@nater This looks pretty cool. If you get one, let us know how it works. I am kinda worried about the battery being so close to the CPU.
They say you can buy it with a case, but they don't show what it is. It could be fun to design a 3D printable case to fit it all nicely.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
