In fact, the list is pretty good in my opinion. There is almost everything, Destruction Derby, Final Fantasy 7, Rayman, GTA, Resident Evil and such classics. I think this list is better than the SNES Mini has.

I don't know what drove me there or if i have a split personality, but the list is everything else than good!! Don't believe me over there. I rethink about the games and there are too many important games missing. You can't release a Playstation Classic without these missing games. The final release would so much benefit from 10 more games of the list below and would save Sony some embarrassment. Let me not start talking about the emulator itself and features.

Missing Tier 1 (100% failure if one is missing, must haves):
      Crash Bandicoot
      Wipeout
      Gran Turismo
      Tomb Raider

Missing Tier 2 (system defining important games, at least include some of them)
Castlevania - Symphony of the Night
      Street Fighter Alpha 3
      Spyro The Dragon
      Ape Escape
      Final Fantasy Tactics
      Suikoden 2
      Grandia
      Parappa the Rapper
      Rapid Reload
      ISS Pro Evolution
      Medal of Honor
      Soul Reaver
      Driver

Missing Tier 3 (would be cool factor, include at least one of them):
      Chrono Trigger
      Vagrant Story
      Exhumed / Powerslave
      Soul Edge / Soul Blade
      EinhΓ€nder
      R-Type Delta
      Tenchu 2

      Really Sony? Really?!

@thelostsoul Nice list of games. Sony is delivering a complete mess of a system. Missing lots of classic games, no menu music, no dual shock controller (especially for Metal Gear Solid) and no graphics options. Most of these games (if not all) will look quite horrible without scanlines/smoothing. They couldn't even be bothered to use an inhouse emulator. It all looks extremely lazy to me and I feel sorry for everyone buying this.

It's a licensing issue. As big as Sony are, they probably can't get a license for the music tracks.
Games like the Wipeout series, and Gran Turismo, had commercial music in them. So my guess is that, it's either they can't get a license, or the cost of getting one - per-track, not per-game, is not worth the cost because Sony would have to add that cost to the mini PSX.

@John_RM_70 I am sure there was some licensing issues. Gran Turismo 2 also had 500 licenses real cars. At least the first GT had not that much. Whatever the reason is why these games aren't included, it does not make the situation better. Ok, say Sony could not get the license or worse, it was not worth it for them. The games will be still missing.

I found most of these deficiencies online, except for the missing menu music. Where did you learn about that?

I've seen that particular video referenced several times as the deciding factor for canceled preorders. While everything seems to work well enough and it's not a complete train wreck of a release, it's just not enough to justify the price, or really even get many people interested at all. It's a real shame, as the PSX, alongside the N64, was the turning point that normalized 3D gaming for the masses. It deserves a better representation than this.

@Clyde I don't remember..I watched a couple of videos about it. Pretty sure someone pointed this out. It doesn't surprise me though. Nes and snes had very unique music and sound effects because of their hardware limitations..so it's pretty easy to make some menu music resembling that style. Playstation 1 had cd music quality/complexity so what would the menu music be like? Now I'm thinking about it, I'd choose the menu music from the Demo One cd...that would bring back memories for lots of people.

Even better would be to have lots of songs from different classic ps1 games but that would again need licensing.

Thanks, but I didn't notice the narrator mentioning (missing) menu music, and the video in the background is without sound anyway. Did I miss something?

That said, I spotted another flaw or at least a missed opportunity in the narration:

"Sony said, it doesn't feature support for other controllers to be plugged in, or for the controllers to work on PC."

Why?! Why make another proprietary mess if you already use USB?

Although it's a tiny improvement to the (S)NES Minis with their proprietary connectors, its worthless to the customer until some third party comes up with a hack or adapter.

Also, although 720p being the only resolution is no problem for me, especially since it's my projector's native resolution, good luck with any display that can't handle 720p like my DIY arcade cabinet's 1600x1200 monitor from 2006.

@BobHarris So, until I missed something in @thelostsoul's link, I have to suspend my verdict about menu music until it's certain. I agree that the music of Demo One would fit very nicely. Another option would be to play a loop of in-game music for each game that is selected, short enough to not require a license, if that's legally possible.

                      edit: some typos

                        @Clyde It is mentioned here:

It makes little beep noises when scrolling between games, that's it.

@Ivan1606 This is wrong thread to ask for this. You can create your own thread and it is the best to ask which system to buy, instead of linking to a site where to check what you want. Otherwise this could be seen as an ad.

All pretty crappy "cons" imho :

                              • switch's not so many games : i already own 37 games on mine, and they are all really cool
                              • psp's on/off placement : is that an issue ?
                              • 3ds's no ac adapter : well, yeah, you'll have to spend 10$ for this, huge deal imho
                              • psvita's need for a memory card : and other handheld needs micro-sd, so ?
                              • 2ds's no 3d : so no headache, is that actually a bad thing ?

I own or owned all of those handheld, my advice :

                              • if you want a handheld console with a battery that lasts for long travels, go for the psp
                              • if you want some modern console with many great games, go for the switch
                              • if you want to turn your console into a retroagaming console by jailbreaking it and installing emulators, go for the psvita.
                              • 2ds's form factor sucks, i sold mine and bought a new3ds, nice handheld, however i think it is too pricy considering it's reaching its end of life.

So disappointing. I think I might wait until they end up on ebay, pre-owned, and a lot cheaper than new.
The form factor is great, and looks infinitely better than those 3D-printed cases you see on ebay.
I will get one, just to complete my Sony collection. But I might also get a pre-owned cheap one to take apart, pop a Pi 3B+ inside, and use it just for PSOne games. I have a huge collection of original boxed PSOne games, nearly 500, so I might just end up dumping the lot to a sdcard and using a Pi just for PSOne only.

So, turns out you can access the emulator settings of the PlayStation Classic by plugging in a keyboard and pressing Escape ..which allows you to use multiple save states, scanlines, change games to NTSC for 60 FPS and so on
