Some Help building my rePLAYSTATiON , please...
-
Hi peoples !
i need some help from you ^.^
i am bulding something like this ->
...with it, my target is to emulate just all ps1 videogames, and just it.
My raspy is a model "RaspBerrry pi 3 B+"
but there is some difference between my project and wath we can see into this video: into my ps1 case will be a lot more space and air inside, becouse i will just connect 2 usb ports, the HDMi, and the power. I will do not use all that cables and stuff inside the case, no any kind of buildt in case power button (to power on/off , i will use an internal micro usb switcher, it is a really small one)...
just the essenctials on my piStation :-)
i would like to ask you if:
-1- Calculating the working frequencies my raspy will work emulating PS1 games (lr-pcsx-rearmed), do you think i will need to plug some heatsink and fan on my raspy to correctly cooL down my raspy, or maybe i can be shure that my raspy will never have temperature issues without this two elements (heatsink and fan) ?
...i would like my "rePLAYSTATiON" will can play for a lot of hours continuously, and that it will have a long life over the time :-)
-2- if i will need Heatsink and Fan , wich model on ebay you can suggest me (good components, good materials, etc etc) ?
Tnx a lot peoples ^.^ -
somebody can answer to my previews post, please ?
and i have another question too: there is some kind of problem if, in order to make my piStation more heavy, i will put inside aroun 1 kg of Lead ?
maybe some issue for SSD data preservation, or some kind of magnetic problems ? -

No need to change anything as PS1 should run fullspeed with a stock Retropie image and a Pi3 B+

Really any 5v fan that will fit in your case should work just fine to keep it cool. Make sure to use a heatsink.

-
Also no need to add weight as the weight of the PS1 case alone should keep it in place.

And if not, suction cups are another alternative depending on the supporting surface.

Adding a small heatsink and small fan on top of the heatsink might help as its in a closed case. I used heatsink glue to mount mine. Basically a big block of heatsink I cut down to be as wide as possible and about 3c m tall with a very tiny fan on top. Keeps things around 45c even when heavily stress tested the pi3b to see how it would cope. Ran fine
These power directly off the GPIO pins without any problems, and only comes on when the PI3 is switched on and off when its powered off
This heatsink should be plenty big enough and might be overkill but will never get overheating issues, might not even need a fan if your only intending to run PS1 games. If you change your mind then try N64 games later things will get warm, but not too warm. Unless you overclock, then the fan might be needed as a fan makes a BIG difference in overclock temps
I've used this heatsink glue. Its perfect. Basically its heatsink paste mixed withe poxy. Once its set it ain't ever coming off so measure carefully if using a tall heatsink and fan
This heatsink set might be an alternative. If it comes with heatsink pads peel it off. Its rubbish and never stick correctly as it just isn't enough surface area to stick permanently and use the heatsink glue. The solid metal one is for the memory chip underneath. I overclock mine to its limits and don't have a memory heatsink and ist fine playing any game including N64 and also run KODI through it without any issues

already plugged suction cups, but anyway for a lot of reasons (i want avoid boring you), i need to add weight to my ps1 case...
Are there some kind of issues with metals as Lead ? magnetic issues or i dont know...
becouse i really need more weight.EDiT:
thanks a lot to steptoe, for totally answered to my first question.
i will do as you say.now i need just to understand if there is some kind of problems with Lead in order to ad weight to my ps1 case.
